Tbh part of me wishes they just centered the game around the echidna tribe. It all works. The chaos emerald/master emerald harnessing architecture. The chaos esque creatures. Coco being chao ripoffs.

It was all there idk why they didn't go for it.

They were going really hard for some new generation chao and it just didn’t do it for me either. I found all their noises to be really annoying.

    not news but

i rly like how in touch sonic team/sega pr ppl r with fans. like the "homing dash" was a strat discovered by players n we dont rly know if it's an intended but hidden technique or if it's just an unintended consequence of sonic's movement in this game

but regardless sonic team pr is just like "yeah we think that's cool too let's put out a video telling everyone how to do it"

Top tier PR move, but was 100% a happy accident. the suckers that buy this as an intended mechanic crack me up, since the base game contained tutorials for everything except that. Still, they’re better for playing along with it.

Can't wait to play this, got a key for it because it was the last day for the Steam sale but I can't play because my PC is messed up

  • god chaos island is horribly designed but im finally making some progress today

  • Jan 8, 2023

Thinking bout copping this need a new single player game to play

  • just beat the game today! overall a great step in the right direction for the sonic franchise. the character writing is at its best here. sega did put some annoying s*** in this game to complete but other than that, gets a 8/10 from me.

i still don't even understand the story? their race was wiped out by.. something.

the Titans i fight the whole game are actually of the good guys right? So....

The random exposition dump at world 4 was stupid as f*** and helped in no way at all. What is the story even about???

THANK YOU. I thought I was the only one confused by nearly everything that transpired, and dumbfounded by the final boss.

From what I can gather... the chao are "hearts" of the Chaos-like creatures called "the ancients" who came from another planet (or dimension? can't remember) and bought the Chaos Emeralds with them... they were followed by this evil thing they were trying to escape called "The End"? Which was, or took the form of, a talking planet? The ancients tried to fight it off using their Chaos Emerald powered mechs but failed (even though the Emeralds are supposed to have unlimited power so they must have been wildly incompetent to have lost) and became corrupted and put in hibernation mode until Sage (whos origin I'm still confused about) woke them up in a weakened state? But I've got no clue where the cyberspace themes fit into all of this, or why exactly their "hearts" were left behind and still animate.

The story didn't have the wacky but sentimental appeal of any of the early 2000s games imo, the whole thing just felt very weird. Character interaction was okay, even though it was just more of everyones entire being revolving around talking to Sonic as usual, and I didn't like the way cutscene were directed. They would have been better off trying to develop a present-tense story instead of time-traveling antics, for a series with enough lore to draw from as is... but we'll see how they move from here since a big priority was setting Knuckles free from his Angel Island guardian duty and setting up Tails for his own adventures.

lmao the funniest part about that s***.

supposedly they were attracted to the master emerald. which already existed light years away. which already was in control of the chaos emeralds.... how do they even work? go kill solaris with my memories. huh??

all it took (apparently) was super sonic and like the white titan or whatever. why tf were they running? why did we randomly see their memories? what even is cyberspace? why does the floating moon appear exactly after the last titan? why are they connected? why am I fighting the good guys???

    it's so s*** man

  • Jan 13, 2023

i think they tried to make some evangelion s*** while clearly missing the point.

evangelion works because we know these characters totally and thoroughly.

so when these random catastrophic tier events occur for half an hour, it actually feels impactful in some way. we have that anchor. here I'm just... Idk there's cutscenes I guess.

  • Jan 13, 2023

like super sonic was still relatively getting his s*** kicked by one titan at a time.

then all it takes is him and one titan 😂😂 okay man. Sure

where did that b**** even pop in from

It's explained that Cyberspace is used to store the memories of the Ancient One's. They used it in the same way we use a video camera.

Which I why we see their memories.

"The End" was sealed inside the Supreme Titan when you're fighting it. They say It escaped into space after you defeat Supreme and then Sage takes over Supreme.

Will say THIS part isn't explain in the actual game and you would only know it if you read interviews. But "The End" isn't a moon. It takes a different form for everybody. So we, the audience, see a moon. But Sonic sees something different. And Sage sees something different. It's form is dependent on how you interpret death.

Power scaling is a bit silly to do in a video game; but if you want an explanation as to why Sonic was able to defeat "The End" despite struggling with weaker titans. In the final act Sonic's friends lend them their strength. Plus, he likely got stronger throughout the game after each fight

all of this just sounds so silly man.

they're really trying to evangelion but missing the point.

what about the master emerald part.

and why does anything at all cause the emeralds to be infinite sources of energy? why did they all of a sudden become chained again to these ancient structures out of nowhere having not been so for centuries

Don't really get what's silly about it... nor does it really seem Evangelion-Like at all outside of the Titan designs, and the obvious Sage and Eggman connection. Isn't because it's tackling something serious in tone? Because the franchise has always done that.

And your last question was also answered in game.
When Eggman tried hacking the islands tech it reawakened the island's defense system, and "The End" started trying to escape. Prior to Eggman's arrival everything was fine

When Eggman reactivated Cyberspace and the Island's machinery, it drew the Chaos Emeralds back to the island. Which then lead Sonic, Tails, and Amy to investigate what was going on when they noticed the emeralds were all drawn to the islands.

Admittedly, the reason why "The End" was chasing the ancient one's isn't fully explained; but it can be presumed it's likely because they created the Chaos Emeralds and it had something to do with wanting to harness them for itself

The origin of the master emerald didn't need to be explained in this game. It's not being explained doesn't make the story less clear

  • Jan 18, 2023

Y’all acting like this is some kingdom hearts s*** lol. It’s almost all explained in the game. Only things left hanging r Why is the master emerald separated where it was and Are the koco truly the ancients spirits or are they separated embodiments of their culture on some nier automata s***

Because the context of the story is only ever half explained in a random exposition dump 3/5 of the way in. And when it ends more random s*** happens that isn't thoroughly explained.

I find the master emerald's origin absolutely important. It's hard to believe the sell that emeralds are extra terrestrial efforts, being identical in manifestation to one that's already here. And while already being bluetooth synced to it.

What was different this time around where the end of able to be defeated?

Super sonic was sweating hard af trying to kill one titan at a time. They had 5(?). Why did the power of friendship and thinking really hard about it undo sonic's corruption? like that was so goofy.

I'm lost as to how defeating them even correlates to the end in the first place. Why didn't they just seal it from the start? I'd believe the sell that the emeralds were necessary to do so, but they haven't been active there in centuries.

Everything feels so arbitrary and barely strung together to me.

SA2's final story comes with a hefty exposition dump, but not jarring or out of left field. It doesn't outright explain why artificial chaos are on the ark, why shadow is so similar to sonic etc. But none of that directly affects your understanding of the plot, and leaves you to form your own theories with clues sprinkled in.

It's hard to care about the final boss when i have no idea what the f*** is happening.

You're adding on criticism that weren't in your initial post. Was never claiming the game's had 0 flaws or plot holes. Just that most of the questions you asked in your initial post had answers.

They explain what Cyberspace is; even if you don't personally like the concept of cyberspace.

They explain why everything kick started just now.

Powerscaling characters when they have god level powers a bit silly. But again, if you really NEED that to be explained, and even if you don't like the power of friendship explanation; the game has a literal leveling system. Could simply be argued that Sonic got stronger and more experienced fighting the titans after every fight, and that Super Sonic is just a lot strong by the time he's fighting The End.
That and he's team up with a Supreme Titan controlled by Sage, and with the Supreme Titan also harnessing the emeralds.

All we needed to know is that they came to earth because the Master Emerald guided them there. That's enough explanation the story required for the Master Emerald. And leaves the door open to explore it more in future titles.
