I hate when they get crazy hot takes off because its like just chill it really ruins it for the rest of us . Let s*** breathe and digest without getting caught in the moment or "cultural impact"

Nah I am all for you being harsh. People do get caught up in moment more than what something is though man come on
Again I am not saying this is bad but in 2023 nothing can ever be good anymore it is "GREATEST ANIMATION OF ALL TIME"
People saying "this is the greatest of all time" " Best animated film" "best movie ever" and not even saying why then I watch whatever it is and its like "that was good but what are they seeing"
does ruin things its not a loser ass take. If people say what they like about something rather than comparing it or saying some random hot take it helps me process what they mean. When they just say "perfect" what do I get from that. The hype cycles and the demand of studios to create hype cycles affects us all and it affects the art

Maybe, but I don’t necessarily consider that a thing to criticize, and I think often times when people do that, they’re simply doing it because they aren’t a fan of the thing that’s being obsessed over. Which is fine, if you don’t like something then you don’t like something but perspective and credibility is lost when you try to attach objectivity to it.
Is Across the Spiderverse better than Akira? That doesn’t matter. Is it a worthy opinion that can be made outside the confines of “the hype” or “the moment”… Yes.
Regardless of opinion, the first film has stood the test of time as a landmark for animation in the mainstream over the past ~20 years, and though it’s only been a couple months, for many, Across the Spiderverse at the very least rivals the quality of the first, if not surpasses it. Will that still hold true five years from now? I have no clue, but it’s too early to say either way. We’re still “in the moment.”

It has probably the best if not one of the best animation though. You're acting like we're talking about Minions or Mario lmao.
Like my friend wasn't too sold on the story mainly due to the cliffhanger and even then he randomly brought the movie up a few days ago saying how he has never seen anything like it.

That isn't the major basis of my critique though lol. My entire critique came before that post. June mentioned the Akira comparisons. I said in general I wish I understood what people saw in this but I respect the different taste

But story matters to me I guess. Yes animation is fire but amazing animation with this level story just felt very okay to me. I get you though. I am not anywhere saying bad animation. I have made an effort to say great animation and drawing in every post ( PAY THEM FOLKS )
s*** better be great animation with the controversy

I don’t think this is a thing in general it’s just a thing people instinctively feel towards these films specifically. And it’s understandable let’s be honest here, just like it would be understandable for a classic Walt Disney or Pixar film to elicit the same emotion. If anything people generally feel the opposite lately, as if every major genre in the film industry - including animation pre Spider-Verse - is overall generic trash

I know it wasn’t, and my post was never about your take/review of the film. It was about dismissing the love people have for this film as them simply being caught up in the hype/moment.

Nah this film deserves all the love it gets. I do wish people could articulate their love. That is all. Their love hopefully of the story not just animation.

It’s funny you said hopefully here
The assumption that people who love and laud Spider-Verse only do so because of the stunning and original animation is projection. Because some can’t fully enjoy the movie as much as most, they don’t see the merit of the story, so in their minds it must be for what they consider a shallow reason: the stunning and original animation. But if they were actually exposed to how most people who like these films felt, they would know it’s almost completely because of the merit of the story - or at least how much merit they believe the story has. And the emotional resonance. And the sharp dialogue. And the enjoyable characters

I got to say hopefully because I don't see the story talked about enough on this one . That is in general. I can't say definitely

Its not the assumption many fo the pages aren't talking about the story out of 113 pages
I don't even think the story is bad by any means . I just say the story doesn't blow me away. We will all feel differently about something. In none of these post do I say the story is bad. Its okay for me. That is okay it will be groundbreaking or emotionally moving to someone else. That is the nature of art. When someone says something is the best animation, best movie, best spiderman movie of all time is it unfair for someone to want to know what they liked more about the story and story beats, emotional connection than it looked good? I know it looked good I saw it. Some of the emotional moments landed some didn't like any movie .
I walked in having vaguely heard of the critical acclaim. I was moved to tears for absolutely no reason. Just because I knew I was experiencing one of the best pieces of media I’d ever seen.
Top 20 American films ever?
This was cool don't fully understand the hype but enjoyable for what it is
same s*** I said a week ago
