It was obvious from the 2nd film that they had absolutely no idea what they were doing lmfao. It’s absolutely wild to me that they didn’t walk into this s*** with a proper plan from the jump. Hopefully, if Kevin is still involved, they’ve learned from this crucial mistake. You can’t make a film like Star Wars on a f***ing whim. For better or for worse, George never did that s*** why the f*** would you

just rewatched the prequels........how do you guys usually rank the jedi/sith in terms of power levels?

my tier list has always been:

    10 - yoda, palpatine
9 - mace, dooku, anakin (peak ROTS)
8 - obi wan (peak ROTS), maul etc.

i guess lucas has gone on record saying anakin is up in the same power level as yoda and palpatine come ROTS, with mace and obi wan being a power level below anakin. i found that interesting he would say that

hes also gone on record saying mace beat palpatine legit when they fought, palpatine wasn't holding back.

Obi Wan is too low based on what we can go off

Tossing Rian out in favor of JJ was the worst decision they made

Conceptually Rian’s story was the right thing to do. Very poor execution though.

im fine with him being a high 8, almost 9 in my ranking

he beat maul, but maul always overestimated himself, and he was overconfident and impatient at times. recipe for disaster when going up against obi wan. maul was stronger in TPM, yet a padawan obi wan defeated him.

obi wan has quite the resume tho, he defeated maul, grievous, and anakin just in the movies alone

Depends on the time you're basing him on. By the end of the Clone Wars I'd say he's on par with Anakin & Dooku (even though he did get knocked out at the start of EP3). Just inconsistent depiction of his abilities for the sake of the plot, which is common in Star Wars unfortunately.

My friend and I just watched the prequels. First time for me.

    The Phantom Menace

    ☆☆

    "There's always a bigger fish"

This is the only bad film in the trilogy. Most obvious takeaways were child Anakin who wasn't good and Jar-Jar Binks who was funny for about a minute, annoying after that.

I think the biggest problem is the script. This being the first prequel I watched, really surprised me with how bad the dialogue and acting feels even with the adult actors. It feels like theater kids trying to do banter and say cheesy action movie lines.

The highlights of the movie are the pod racing scene (it was a little too long but mostly fun) and anything with Darth Maul (who I assume is the phantom menace? I don't know), he just looked cool and menacing the entire time. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon's fight with him is one of my favorites.

The funniest thing is during this fight we see one of the ugliest movie scenes with the Jar-Jars vs droids fight. All the CGI in this movie looks really fake and this is the worst offender.

Overall it's a bad movie. Most of the plot revolves around them finding Anakin and space politics. So the bulk of the plot is boring. It wasn't funny like they hoped not even in a "so bad it's good" way.

    Attack On The Clones

    ☆☆☆

"I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere."

First thought is that the title is very misleading. It's not really an action movie as I felt like most of the movie was about Anakin and Padme's love story which is... okay.

I don't think Hayden Christensen is such a bad lead. I enjoyed him here and in the next movie. Sure he acts awkward but so does everyone else because of the direction and script. He's a good little edgy boy.

The problem with Anakin and Padme is that you can't really tell WHY they're in love except for plot reasons... Okay they met as children and he fell in love with her because she's a girl princess. What does she like in him? What do they find in each other after that initial crush? An excuse one could make is that in the Star Wars universe love is different and doesn't need to be explored that deeply. But since it's a romantic movie you'd want your audience to relate to the movie but they can't.

The movie picks up in the last 30 minutes where there's an actual attack of the clones (and a funny C-3PO scene, I like him so I enjoyed the silly scene). I actually forgot the time line but Anakin and Padme's scene on Nabu is good and the one where he tells her he killed all the sand people is good. The rest of the movie is just okay.

More thoughts is I enjoyed Ewan McGregor and Christopher Lee in their roles. Yoda jumping around and doing flips is always fun to see. He's so smol!

    Revenge of the Sith

    ☆☆☆☆

"It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them!"

This is a very good movie. I'll say as a semi hot take this is the best Star Wars movie since I enjoyed it the most.

I definitely watched this because of the jokes and quotes. It's the main reason I wanted to watch the prequels in the first place (and yet it took us like a month to get together and watch it).

I wouldn't blame anyone who watches this movie and is like "no this is still pretty bad". It still carries over problems from the first two movies.

And yet? It's a really entertaining movie throughout. I was never bored. It's always important scenes for plot progression, interesting character interactions or development and a lot of drama.

I enjoy ALL the Palpatine content in this movie (Ian McDiarmid is the best actor here). I love the final Obi-Wan and Anakin fight scene. Definitely the best Star Wars scene ever. I like that they said "may the force be with you. goodbye old friend" the last time they saw each other before the fact. I love EMO ANAKIN he's cool.

I was surprised by how much I'd like General Grievous as a villain. His voice, appearance, name and mannerisms are just so cool to me. I like that he can turn into a spider. If I watched it as a kid I would've bought that toy for sure.

The soundtrack all throughout this movie is great too, when the Darth Vader theme slowly started playing it felt very effective.

This is a movie that gives you a lot to discuss. I think it's interesting how easy it was to switch Anakin to the dark side. There's a lot to be said about the Jedi and Sith ideologies that doesn't come down to one is good and the other is bad. I found myself agreeing with Palpatine a lot during this movie.

My overall opinion about this movie is there's a lot to like and it's definitely entertaining. But if you don't like Star Wars or want to critically a***yze it you probably won't like it.
