no it feels like since views he been makin music to fulfill contractual obligations instead being inspired and actually wanting to make music. If he woulda stopped after Scorpion and went back into acting he would be the GOAT and it wouldn’t be a conversation

    That’s not true

I feel like the run he’s been on since Scorpion has some of his best moments and some of my personal favorite Drake songs

If Scorpion was his last album, people wouldn’t appreciate it any more than they do now

To be honest, the most striking thing I’ve noticed in his career is his gradual regression as a person (or at least that’s how the music seems). He used to be much more conscious and aware when he was younger, even if it was for lighter things like relations w/ girls. The music is still really good at times (her loss) and you can tell he still got it but his evolution as halted in subject matter. I’ll give him a slight edge over Kendrick due to the sheer versatility and moments he’s given us over the years but I hope he really takes his time to address everything with the next solo drop. For his sake honestly.

    For his sake honestly

He used to disobey the beat in interesting ways and carve out cool pockets

Now he manly just rides the obvious pocket and calls it a day

Idk man.. 5 years ago bro locked into the hi-hats from 1:48 and that’s just one that comes to mind.. it was so not obvious at the time people were saying he was off beat

He hasn't topped Find Your Love when it comes to his Pop/Rnb songs

I think his flows and melodies got better, but content became shallow. I also enjoy that his song structures are less conventional nowadays. More interesting to listen to in ways..

I agree regarding content. But the quality in music is so consistent it doesn't really matter in the end

No but no artist goes in a direction every fan wants. Every single one of my favorite artists have had misses or broke that streak of perfect albums. It happens. Artists make what they wanna make and hope it resonates with the audience. It’s okay if your favorite has misses. That doesn’t make their old work not good anymore

He has no bad songs, no bad albums, no bad career moves, biggest in the business and he will win that lawsuit, and the midget will pay for his crimes. Drake is hip hop. Without drake, hip hop will turn into rock music.

I like a good amount of it.

At the end of the day he's had a long career and gave countless great songs to people, even though I do take issue with a lot of the quality control and the sort of 'mixed bag' strategy can take away from the final product imo. The variety isn't always a 'plus' imo although sometimes he just strikes a creative sweet spot and thats what i look out for. The OV-hoes on here know i don't like the new album im not going to rehash that but,

Songs like these are why Drake's music is still worth checking out, imo:

Greedy is cool. The new album has some nice moments but overall i got issues that taint even those parts.

That's what I'm saying. When drake executes the idea (in my opinion) so well like in those songs I posted, I really enjoy it

That's why I hold him to a high standard because I know he can make things like that, and that's part of my issue as well

After “More Life” his albums started to feel like random songs put together.

  • Mar 3, 2025

modern drake for me is best encapsulated by the situation w this song. old drake, hell maybe even up to like 2016 nigga would've recognized this as insanely heat and wouldn't have compromised it for any reason... 'stead he butchered the song for a mid hov verse. idk why except that he felt he was being too vulnerable or something... which is literally one of the biggest things that made dude unique back in the day. there was always a balance between the 5am in torontos and the doing it wrongs, and for me that balance basically dont exist.

and im not asking that he make the same kind of music forever. but damn i mean, this song is not even that old, and it's my fav drake joint to come out in a minute. what does he say in the song? "i don't know how anymore" yeah man. it shows in the music

  • Mar 3, 2025

I'm starting to care less and less about his main albums but I like that he went through with making Honestly Nevermind

I loved the trajectory he was on up until More Life. After that it’s been mostly disappointing for me but there’s always some stand out gems, but they also annoy me because i’d really want him to lock in and drop another undeniable classic with better substance atp

Also i respect the HNVM switch up with him trying to do something very different but i didn’t connect with that album at all

"Do you wish he stayed that same humble artist with big dreams"

why would anyone want this. we like drake because he raps from his perspective. he has no reason to be humble and hit all his dreams
