I’d rather be a nurse and rap on the side than do full time. These niggas living a lie out here
Imagine you’re an upcoming artist that doesn’t have big backing from anyone and your own city doesnt fw you that much and you really wanna get on. Paying a few hundred bucks for hundreds of thousands of streams can make it easier to have conversations with record labels to get signed so you have some kind of machine behind you. Now imagine you’re an artist that has a name in hip hop but not big in the mainstream. Buying a lot of streams is the difference between opening act and featured act, difference between award show consideration and nothing at all. Things that can if you just are in certain rooms can change your life forever. The purist in me hates it but if i’m an artist trying to blow i wouldn’t think twice about doing it
labels don't give a f***
this industry is so f***ed up at this point idk how it could bounce back

2 percent of us rich and the rest of these niggas all milk it
Always thought it was insane this song and life is good got more streams than WAP, now we know why
(Life is good was spammed by youtube ads)
5 seconds after your favorite rock song ends
“Working on the weekend like usual…”

It’s not just rap bro. Get that thought out ya head. Starving pop artists been a thing forever
Stop it, Life Is Good hype was as genuine as it gets. It’s just a huge song lol
Nah that s*** was payola'd, when it first came out, it always came after a song you recently played on YT even if it's not the same genre.
It won’t,streaming was put in place to make sure there would never be another Master P/No Limit or even Cash Money again having a singular audience getting them rich without ever needing a labels help to crossover. Now every label controls everything an artist does and now these artist have to use billion dollar establishment platforms to distribute their music.
There’s no work around anymore to be truly an independent artist
I wouldn't say that, theirs always something than can exploited or finessed in the system for an artist to get on.
im dead my boy lives in montana and there is no way in hell people there are playing rockstar by da baby, s*** isnt even on iPhone Maps for montana cuz its old fashioned
independent artists should just boycott the music industry entirely. In fact, all artists that care about music should boycott the music industry (mainstream or not).

Doesn’t mean it’ll work in this day & age. Labels & corporations teamed up to make it almost impossible to independent in music these days. Eliminating the CD,musical success being determined by views/streams instead of actual money and a heavier emphasis on signing super naive young talent to 360 deals is how labels have finally got the one up on artist.

they basically own playlists (and basically own spotify, as well). If you ain't with them, expect to be blacklisted. Piss one of their artists off, and expect to be blacklisted.
