Clayface is such an obscure character, and it’s not being led by any big-name actor
But who knows, with Obsession doing what it did and Clayface being a body horror film releasing in October, maybe it’s a surprise hit and does way better than anyone expects it to

Normally, yes this is true, but DC is in a very unique position. They still tryna wipe off the stink of the DCEU with general audiences. That’s why I think they should’ve played it safe for their first few films. Establish new & better iterations of the characters that the DCEU royally f***ed up so audiences know it’s a new regime

Does that mean Supergirl getting bad reviews and not making any money isn’t a problem? No.

The challenge with building a universe is getting people to care about and show up for all of the ancillary character-led films
Right now Supergirl looks DOA
Clayface looks like a good film, but it’s most likely not gonna make that much money
Outside of that, they have zero other films with an actual release date after Man of Tomorrow
It seems like they have Superman figured out but everything else is kind of up-in-the-air at the moment
I still think starting with TV shows so early was a mistake
EDIT: Forget release dates, I just realized they don’t even have any movies post-Man of Tomorrow that are anywhere close to filming right now

The Sony films all had $100+ million budgets, were written to be campy 2000s type films, and were ugly af
The horror genre is pretty low risk, high reward because of their modest budgets and faithful core audience.
It’s dropping right before Halloween, looks creepy af, and it’s not super expensive.

Gotta think about the landscape of things tho.
DCU right after the DCEU failure is in a difficult position compared to the MCU just starting. Batman v Superman bombing even tho it made money was the start of the end for the DCEU.
If something similar to that happens where a new batman or wonder woman bombs like that with the bad rep DC already has it...its over
