You want me to believe it was a great script then Craig came in and they let him make a bunch of changes which made it a bad script

I am going to be honest with you if that was the script there isnt really any director without changes I think could make it a good movie. The writing was that bad. I give him the fall for directing it. But the writing was the MAIN issue to me. Not the action. Not even the actors themselves because they tried with the material they were given but the writing was abysmal.

A bad Director can make any decent script into s***, you gave a really good director a horrible script and the film will be average

Bro Craig and the writer Ana are on record saying they change the script in the process of making the movie

Like its entirely possible the script was never good in the first place and im not doubting that. But I have no idea why we are acting like its impossible that a director cant turn a good script into a bad movie especially when the first draft was changed

I dont think a movie with that level of budget was changed by Craig and Ana who is signed for 2 future movies in secret without approval by James Gunn and Warner Brothers who are at risk of losing massive money on the movie. . Some light changes sure but MAJOR CHANGES. that would lead the great script first draft to be as utter dogshit as the one we got when Craig even mentions he was sold on Ana writing from the first script first draft first 15 pages doesnt really make a level of sense.

James Gunn HAS LOST THE TRUST OF PEOPLE AFTER SAYING ITS A GREAT SCRIPT . Then we got what we got. There is no changing that .

A producer openly said they added in Lobo

    A producer not Craig.

    They changed her complete backstory

And they changed the whole Rutheye being the narrator of the movie like the comic

Those are pretty big changes man

Where does it confirm they made these changes after original script? While those both would help. The writing still just didnt hold weight to me

    it used emotionally manipulative moments

    • Dog in danger
      -Child s***trafficking
    • death of parents
    • Alcoholism
    • revenge venegance

without really putting a full or even half effort into landing any of them . Not terrible movie at all. Quite a bit overhated. But how it approaches these topics and themes I cant say it successfully executed any of them.

Then threw in Superman and Lobo in ways that felt they didnt have confidence it what they were showing here

In the original draft of the script, the movie opened with meeting Ruthye and getting to know her. But what we realized is that comic readers know Supergirl really, really, really well, so they are OK with meeting her through somebody else’s eyes. But for the movie-going public, Supergirl is not Batman; we haven’t seen her parents die a bunch of times like Bruce Wayne’s, we don’t know it that well. I’ve seen Spider-Man get bitten by a radioactive spider a bunch of times, but we don’t have that with her. So, we realized we had to onboard the audience to Kara as the focus of the movie, not just through Ruthye.

    And her back story

It was a little bit of a journey, because there are different versions of her backstory, and the one directly from “Women of Tomorrow” was what I believe was in my first draft — which is that she’s there when the core implodes. There are all these little things that work in comics, but then suddenly in a script, they don’t work, because then there’s a whole aspect where she gets stuck in the Phantom Zone for a decade. It suddenly took over the movie

My point is that if they were willing to make these major changes from the original draft, then other things could of change that affected the overall execution of the film's writing

Again im not saying the original script couldnt have been bad too. Im just saying its not impossible that it changed greatly from its inital version for the worse

These cuts from it definitely affect it yes but I dont even think they succeed at nailing the character of ruthye, lobo or supergirl at all throughout the entirety of the movie.

Also as head of DC you cant let a writer you signed for multiple movies and a director make so many changes it goes from a " great script " to this. Even if you busy writing man of tomorrow or something else. It very much feels like too many chefs in the kitchen between the decision to adapt a comic by someone who refuses to read the comic directing with a first time major movie script writer. Then a producer adding Lobo.

I am hyped for Lanterns and Clayface because we have heard of little to none mass involvement from a bunch of studio heads who muddled other movies

Do I agree with them that Supergirl needed some onboarding? Yes but I think they started her in a bad spot with her cameo at the end of superman. Spending too much time on Ruthye when we will never see her again I get it.

It’s alright for what it is. I’m not as harsh on CBMs as most. I will say Milly seemed so bored for half the movie she’s a better actor than what was shown here. Then again there wasn’t much to her character other than either being depressed or snarky

Mamoa on the other hand is having a ball. He had more chemistry with each of the two leads than they did with each other

Wish they linked Kara’s drinking more into the depression because that scene in the cave with the kryptonite felt like someone going to withdrawals

Ruthie character was pretty inconsistent. One scene she’s able to sneak into places next she’s getting caught
