I just feel like they were looking for a reason to show us more inverting and special effects
tbf you could say that about the entire movie

But a whole battle felt kinda random

true
the only foreshadowing for it was during jdw's meeting with michael caine when he explains that there was an explosion in stalsk 12 on the same day as the opera siege
other than that tho theres basically no buildup to it

But do you realize tho? By mentionning that battle and being alive, Michael Caine is saying we already won, even if he doesnt know it.
Him by mentionning the battle and Kat by telling the story of the girl on the boat, both of them are saying "we won". They dont know it yet, we dont know it yet.

yeah i understood that part, im pretty sure jdw realizes that they have already won when neil explains it to him in the shipping container to the freeport
im just saying that the transition to the battle itself was literally them waiting while inverted until the day of the battle came. not much buildup there

Well in the old james bond movies you always had a big battle scene without any build up. The cavalry comes outta nowhere.. I feel like that was more a reference to that, i might be wrong.

I think in interviews Nolan did say he was influenced by some of he stuff he saw in old Bond movies as a kid
All this hype and i ended up feeling nothing. Gonna wait as long as i can to rewatch cause i already forgot most of it and my 4* still stands. Probs gonna go down upon rewatch so yeah i'm being generous rn Mr Nolan
y’all think he was himself at the opera in the beginning in the mask. I think he went back there to hide the algorithm
this still is mind blowing though i had to go back a few times to see what was going on even what i though was happening was not
i dont get one thing how did he recruit him in the beginning and he said afterwords when he was going to the plane he was about to meet him ? i guessing the present became the past and the past became the future?
edit so this explains what i was saying
Pattinson gives his part to Washington and reveals that, from his perspective, they’ve actually known each other for years: Future Washington recruited past Pattinson into the Tenet organization. (Whether this happened in the timeline before or after the events of the film is unclear; many theories have sprung up on this subject.) Pattinson heads back to the Turnstile, and Washington sees that his backpack is the same as the corpse’s. Pattinson’s inverted self will run back into the tunnel, close the gate and then take the bullet. It’s also the same backpack that was seen on the mystery man in the opera house, which means there’s yet another version of Pattinson floating around the timeline saving Washington’s life there, too.

My head hurts

It was Neil. It has his red chain on the back.
look at the freeport,
normal protag
fight himself protag (reverse)
fight with neil protag
reversing to the battle protag
going thru time again protag
i forgot the stalsk-12 battle is during the same time as the opera
man.
It’s been too long since I watched this. It’s like forgetting s*** I learnt in school. Straight up don’t even know what any of the theories itt are saying
Rewatch time
That ending battle had to have been the most anticlimactic s*** I’ve ever seen from Nolan
Like on one hand reversing time is a great plot device. It’s Hitchcock style suspense whenever you see a bullet hole, blood, or wreckage. Even more Hitchcock style the way it all wraps up and some of the movie explains itself at the end.
And visually it’s incredible. The building double explosion is madness, and I still can’t figure out how the self-combat scene was even imagined.
But on the other hand.. trying to rationalize any of it just makes my eyes roll so hard. And the dialogue sometimes jesus.. idk man. I wanna just appreciate it all the way
I just feel like they were looking for a reason to show us more inverting and special effects
Why wouldn't they lol. That's the whole thing with the movie.
Neil: Entropy of the world going backwards will destroy everything that ever lived.
Kat: Including my son.

Legit rewatched the movie and loved almost everything about it but that line made everyone in the room laugh

yea I didn’t even know what tf was going on but I didn’t really care either
So Neil was Kat’s son right? The fact that he knew too much, his pre-existing relationship with the protagonist, being British
Plus, why else would they dye Robert Pattinson’s hair blonde?
