Yeah the my husband is an angry russian man who wont let me see my son storyline was meh. Great movie still but the emotional aspect was lacking
Didn’t give a f*** about any of the characters
Will give it a re watch though
it was clear somebody was behind it all we were just lead to believe it was rpats and not the protagonist, classic nolan maneuver
I got the reveal about the protag being in charge the whole time
I got the time mechanics
I got the cool twist that it was elizabeth dibeki who jumped off the boat and she saw her self. I actually found that really poignant when you think about how she talks about that moment and how upset it made her feel earlier in the movie
But I didn’t really get any of the set pieces besides the last one
Most times it wasn’t clear to me WHAT they were doing and what the objective was. And at the end of the set pieces, there was no clear thing they now know or now they have obtained.
Like most scenes felt like I was a foreign person watching people speak English but I didn’t understand English
Need a rewatch where I’m not a dumb person watching it and not understanding it

i didnt feel like it was rpats or protag but someone else above them for whom robert pattinson was working tbh, the reveal was dope
Why does ktt hate nolan
ppl will s*** on this movie for being confusing but praise other movies which are way more confusing and snoozefests

i felt that rpats knew about everything the moment he walked in screen
i felt that rpats knew about everything the moment he walked in screen
same, but it felt like he was just super prepared, like a level above Protagonist in the Tenet squad yk
The reveal of them being friends for years

yeah
this so much more layered than his previous films
neil looking like bruce wayne during that first art room sequence
I felt like one place in particular where inception/memento/interstellar were better was the emotional aspect; the emotional stakes didn’t seem high, felt like a sellout(?). We didn’t know much about the protagonist lol not even his name. If interstellar didn’t have the relationship between murph and her dad I don’t think it would’ve been nearly as good. I did like tenet a lot overall though
I know where your point is coming from but I personally feel like it's comparing apples to oranges. Fx take Intersellar, not only is it 18 minutes longer than Tenet but the pace itself is very slow and focused on the characters and the environment around them. Ad Astra is a better direct comparision even by ignoring the scifi/space connection to Intersellar.
This a espionage film and it fits that mole very good with it's own Nolan flair. From the first minute the movie starts, it's straight action and there's tons of it throughout the movie, which is spare in Memento/Intesellar, it's more respectively mystery and suspense. You have the classic multiple locations, car chases, watch etc. that is typical the spy movie genre.
I've felt that the audience wasn't suppose to identify with the protagonist, therefore the lack of a specific name.
However, I do know where you are coming from and a bit more dynamic between JDW and Kat would be great, the chemistry between RP and JDW were great imo. Just feel like this criticism in particular is kinda brought up a lot in reviews while completely ignoring how someone like James Bond isn't really known for his personality as much as his characteristics and antics. Same goes for that whole movie franchise, it just isn't that kind of movie and it shouldn't really count as a flaw unless it was purposely gunning for that.

I couldnt agree more
Ive seen ppl joke about reviewers saying this movie is humorless
But then say the movie lacks an emotional aspect
A movie doesnt NEED either of those (imo)

I actually agree a lot with this, you changed my mind.
I thought it came across like a modern 1950/60s spy thriller when I saw it. It was just really a preference for me that I wanted it to have a deeper emotional aspect. But looking at it outside of that deep emotional element; it was so good. Honestly appreciate the movie a lot more now that you said that.
Im really glad the movie didnt told us that Neil is Max at the end or some s*** like that. I do think he is Max but i like that there is some ambiguity.
"In addition to performing stunts backwards, the main cast actually learned how to speak in reverse for their roles. Kenneth Branagh not only had to learn to speak backwards, but also had to do it with a Russian accent (he is Northern Irish in real life)."
Lmaooo
Saying 50% was undecipherable is just untrue, id say about 5% was difficult to hear, i did have subtitles so
You gotta stop saying the dialogue was clear when you had mfing subtitles lmao
