I agree with your points! I don’t think it’s about their capability like you said, but rather the actual odds of it happening due to things such as the way society locks them into a role. I think it’s an unfair reality. I think we are on the same page more than we, or I thought at first lol, I’m not trying to come off as hostile or anything fam!
That’s fair then. but I think the fact you immediately jump to this line of questioning as a response to when a woman questions the sexism of an award committee like this betrays a degree of chauvinism/sexism if I’m gonna keep it a buck

I definitely see why it looks like that, I just find these convos interesting always. Just like the debate for example about if a college can only take 1 more student, should they take the white female who has a slightly higher GPA than the black female? Probably the black female because the white female might have an easier time getting into the other schools and for the purpose of diversity representation, but on the other hand, if the white female had a higher GPA, why exclude her?
I think these are important conversations that people are afraid to talk about or are too one-sided about. I was happy to see your thoughts!
Could it be possible that men are currently for some reason more likely to make better R&B albums? Just like black people are more likely to make good rap albums than white people are?
What you are saying makes sense only if there are no other factors to be considered at all, in situations such as the “coin toss” odds scenarios. I am well aware of what your point is.
I also agree that at least 2 of those nominated should not be
Edit - I agree with you to a good extent, but my point is that there must be some times where the 5 best (insert type of album, role in movie etc) for that year really all were the same type of person whether it be gender race etc, but no matter what there is going to be a complaint about it
it’s definitely possible, but not as many times as it’s happened
Edit:
Didn’t mean to create negativity or spread hate at all with the original comment. I agree that this year there were definitely female artists who should have replaced some of these male artists.
My only point was that in the event that there actually were 5 male artists who put out the best albums, and 5 males got nominated, there’s always someone who would try to knock the nominations.
Again, agreed that some of the nominations for this year are not good, that’s why my original comment said “what if there actually were...”
They absolutely did not in this instance.
I 1,000,000,000,000% forgot about her mid album.
I'm sure the Grammys did too

Lmfao
Nah she’s right, Grammys went blind tryna include some of those artist to appease certain people
lianne la havas and keiyaa have better albums than everyone on that list
+ Liv.e (my favorite of the three tbh)
Never got around to listening to it ngl. Is it any good?
Mid fest. Some good songs, but TOO long.
Ye was smart to condense it in 8 tracks
None of their albums were hitting besides Summer Walker album this year
summer walker, tinashe & victoria monet deserved noms.
idk why kehlani is in this conversation lol
I’m not going to continue to play these stupid games with you. You are clearly a very insecure (most likely white) male who is trying to get me with a “gotcha” question.
Women are forced to take responsibility for the the majority of reproductive labor in the household, so they do have not historically had the chance to pursue things like music that don’t immediately put bread on the table or facilitate the reproduction of the family unit. So yes they are less likely to participate in music and thus have classic albums because patriarchy forces them to spend most of their time engaging in reproductive labor. Does this make them inherently less capable of making good hip hop music than men like you are trying to get me to admit? No of course not. It merely shows that the industry is much more inaccessible to them. A deadbeat dad can go f*** around with music while a woman does everything at home because he’s afforded that luxury by her labor she’s forced to do at home. So the probability of a man making it is inherently larger because more of them have the opportunity to even try and pursue it in the first place
