would've loved to see DVSN's album get nominated.
F*** the World by Brent Faiyaz
Over It by Summer Walker (c'mon fam this album was a big moment )
Rose in the Dark by Cleo Sol
Edit:
Didn’t mean to create negativity or spread hate at all with the original comment. I agree that this year there were definitely female artists who should have replaced some of these male artists.
My only point was that in the event that there actually were 5 male artists who put out the best albums, and 5 males got nominated, there’s always someone who would try to knock the nominations.
Again, agreed that some of the nominations for this year are not good, that’s why my original comment said “what if there actually were...”
learn about statistics. this stuff leans towards men too often to be considered normal. it’s too many standard deviations from average. it should be an extreme outlier, but it happens too often. you can’t come to any conclusion other than that it’s sexist if you know anything about statistics.
Women upset that men getting too many nominations
Black people upset too many whites
Weeknd pissed he didn’t get noms
White executives pissed
Nicki Minaj upset as always
Beiber upset of his category
Just cancel this awards show bruh nobody happy

Could it be possible that men are currently for some reason more likely to make better R&B albums? Just like black people are more likely to make good rap albums than white people are?
What you are saying makes sense only if there are no other factors to be considered at all, in situations such as the “coin toss” odds scenarios. I am well aware of what your point is.
I also agree that at least 2 of those nominated should not be
Edit - I agree with you to a good extent, but my point is that there must be some times where the 5 best (insert type of album, role in movie etc) for that year really all were the same type of person whether it be gender race etc, but no matter what there is going to be a complaint about it
deal with it u weirdo
shes never even made a song thats over 6.5/10

No it’s not possible because women in R&B have consistently given us some of the best, most important, and influential albums from the genre.

This is a great point! Do you agree though that black people are more likely than white people to make the best rap albums?

Yes because hip hop originates from and has always been based upon black voices and perspectives. It is first and foremost a black genre. R&B is not uniquely male or female in the same way so it would be intrinsically sexist to say one of those genders is better than making it than the other, especially considering the vast amount of evidence we have on wax to prove otherwise

But it is safe and not sexist to say that black males occupy an overwhelming portion of the 100 best rap albums of all time, whatever those albums may be, right?
Corrupt award show is corrupt

this a discussion to have tho. Its like when we talk about diversity in the workplace and everywhere else for minoroties and marginalized people. Just for this reason these awards are pretty useless cause the nominations are limited and obviously not everyone's gonna get nominated

Agreed!!! I also know some people who think something like “best female lead” or “best female pop album” or whatever are insulting because the women have to be separated. I wonder what people on here think of that?
But it is safe and not sexist to say that black males occupy an overwhelming portion of the 100 best rap albums of all time, whatever those albums may be, right?

I’m not going to continue to play these stupid games with you. You are clearly a very insecure (most likely white) male who is trying to get me with a “gotcha” question.
Women are forced to take responsibility for the the majority of reproductive labor in the household, so they do have not historically had the chance to pursue things like music that don’t immediately put bread on the table or facilitate the reproduction of the family unit. So yes they are less likely to participate in music and thus have classic albums because patriarchy forces them to spend most of their time engaging in reproductive labor. Does this make them inherently less capable of making good hip hop music than men like you are trying to get me to admit? No of course not. It merely shows that the industry is much more inaccessible to them. A deadbeat dad can go f*** around with music while a woman does everything at home because he’s afforded that luxury by her labor she’s forced to do at home. So the probability of a man making it is inherently larger because more of them have the opportunity to even try and pursue it in the first place

I’m hoping DVSN gets the credit he deserves one day. He got 3 great projects and no mainstream noise at all

I agree with your points! I don’t think it’s about their capability like you said, but rather the actual odds of it happening due to things such as the way society locks them into a role. I think it’s an unfair reality. I think we are on the same page more than we, or I thought at first lol, I’m not trying to come off as hostile or anything fam!
