Yall are underestimating the impact of Ready To DIe, before Biggie came into the scene the West Coast was bodying NY nationwide, Ready To Die single handedly put the East Coast back in the map while also delivering lyrically.

Wu Tang Clan did that before Biggie though and they did it in their own way unlike Biggie who was jocking Death Row during his run.

Biggie said out his own mouth that RTD was loosely based on the Chronic and Doggystyle while RZA and the Wu popularized a new East Coast sound, Kung-Fu in rap, 5% slang, Mafioso rap, etc. Even ODB was really unique.

Biggie still deserves credit mind you but not as much as the Wu.

Show also shows you how big Snoop was during his prime years. He opened the show, as a Westcoast rapper. And won artist of the year lol

Snoop Dogg is probably the most famous rapper of all time. Only people contending with him is 50, Kanye, Pac

Wu Tang made no waves in the radio and the mainstream

Biggie gave exposure to the whole city nationwide, before RTD nobody was paying attention to NY besides lyrical fans

I feel like more people know the Tupac name than actually know what he was about because of his early death.

My grandma knows who Snoop Dogg is and what he sounds like, but she only knows the name Tupac or 50 Cent etc.

Could be wrong but I feel like Wu and Nas were both more East coast dominant than nationwide until Big came along with his super hits on RDT and really challenged the Wests dominance on the charts/radio. Was too young though so iono lol

Lol...this is false. They weren't that radio oriented but the Wu Tang wave was still huge to the point where Method Man was sought out by Pac for a feature.

When you add the combo of 36 Chambers, Tical, OB4CL, Return to the 36 Chambers, Liquid Swords, Wu Tang Forever, Ironman together on top of their iconic logo/brand and them selling out shows in Japan, they def put the East on the map more than Biggie.

Plus, they stayed true to the East sound with their singles unlike Biggie who jocked the DR sound on his singles while saving the boom bap for the cuts.

If Biggie didn't beef with Pac and die, the Wu would've been seen as a bigger movement in the 90's.

Was Pac at this show? Or was he in prison?

Went to prison in February 95 and was released in October. This was August so yeah.

Bro we are talking about 93/94, not the whole 90s. I’m not underestimating the Wu, they are legends but they were relatively underground compared to Death Row and Biggie in 94. Of course they grew during the decade but one of the reasons for this was Biggie bringing attention again to NY (and also putting Method Man on RTD).

And no f***ing way they put the East Coast on the map more than Biggie
RZA himself would deny that statement

Biggie jocking death row because he used synthesizers and RnB singers is a hilarious narrative

Neither project have misses imo, Ready To Die is 40 minutes longer and a much more ambitious project, both are top 10 rap albums of all time but Biggie achieved a lot of things Nas couldnt with Ready to Die.

Like what? Biggie is my favorite rapper. Illmatic has nothing to wish for. Its always a blast from start to finish

Ready To Die could have done with less Puffy, less skits, 2-3 less tracks overall

Dont get confused either I’m judging relative to how great these projects are. Not against the mainstream
