has quik performing his diss track to mc eiht while he sat in the audience been mentioned itt yet? that was crazy
Niggas were not bumping Nas like that in 94 compared to Biggie. Big had said he thought Nas shoulda got lyricist of the year. The source really meant a lot back then.
Biggie jocking death row because he used synthesizers and RnB singers is a hilarious narrative
ahem
This came out in 1992 and Biggie himself said that Puff stopped him from making Machine Gun Funk which is classic boom bap from being the lead single in favor of Juicy and Big Poppa.
Puffy made the singles of RTD and especially LAD similar to the type of singles coming out of the West and Death Row to help Bad Boy grow in popularity nationwide.
Wu and Nas stuck with the classic East Coast sound so their movements felt more organic.
Hell, there's even rumors that Pac scrapped his album in 94 because Biggie stole his concept for RTD.
Lol...this is false. They weren't that radio oriented but the Wu Tang wave was still huge to the point where Method Man was sought out by Pac for a feature.
When you add the combo of 36 Chambers, Tical, OB4CL, Return to the 36 Chambers, Liquid Swords, Wu Tang Forever, Ironman together on top of their iconic logo/brand and them selling out shows in Japan, they def put the East on the map more than Biggie.
Plus, they stayed true to the East sound with their singles unlike Biggie who jocked the DR sound on his singles while saving the boom bap for the cuts.
If Biggie didn't beef with Pac and die, the Wu would've been seen as a bigger movement in the 90's.
theres absolutely NO WAY you just said wutang would have been viewed bigger than Bad Boys. You are WYLIN
whats forgotten is the source awards the year before where the dogg pound got booed. deathrow was pissed about it. I'm certain thats why EVERYONE on the label was there and why they came in like they had something to prove from being the opening act and suge's speech.
Another thing worth notting is that when Suge made his infamous "come to deathrow" speech is that it was a chess move. it was intended to be towards both puff and jermaine dupri. Death row was throwing shots at JD on the low through out this era but neither sides want to admit it I guess. check the da brat & JD lookalikes at 0:10
also theres a couple of pac songs from the deathrow era where he's dissing da brat and so so def for no real reason besides suge being in his ear. he was trying to take everyone down lol.
theres absolutely NO WAY you just said wutang would have been viewed bigger than Bad Boys. You are WYLIN
It's debatable but remember....Bad Boy didn't even peak until 97....the same year that Biggie died right after Pac's death and the Death row beef.
Diddy's biggest song lowkey capitalized off of Biggie's death although it's sincere.
Before Biggie died, RTD was only double platinum in real time, Craig Mack flopped, and the only platinum selling artists besides Biggie were R&B acts. Biggie's own clique wasn't even signed to Bad Boy and Junior Mafia only went Gold.
Meanwhile, 36 Chambers went triple platinum and the solo rappers like Method Man, ODB, Raekwon, Ghostface, and GZA all went platinum within the 93-96 period.
Before Biggie's death, Bad Boy was only comparable to the Wu if you included their R&B acts but, purely in rap, they weren't bigger than the Wu until Biggie got shot and killed right after the West Coast/East Coast feud.

This nigga was not a death row artist
We all got ears nigga. RTD does not sound like a West Coast record. The death row sound was sexy and they took inspiration. Boo hoo. Tht dont mean they stole the style. They likely jacked the ideas for the sample and made it 100000 times better so who cares lol

Didnt expect nas to be this shook over an award show makes sense he lost the plot following this
then again dude was 19
he was a month out from turning 22, but yeah tbh they all were babies in 95
Like what? Biggie is my favorite rapper. Illmatic has nothing to wish for. Its always a blast from start to finish
Ready To Die could have done with less Puffy, less skits, 2-3 less tracks overall
Dont get confused either I’m judging relative to how great these projects are. Not against the mainstream
One Time 4 Your mind isnt better than One More Chance and Friend of Mine brother
Illmatic is peak hip hop, but RTD is peak hip hop AND also peak music, RTD explores a lot of more sounds and variety of genres. RTD has everything Illmatic has but Illmatic doesnt have RTD anthems and vocal experimentation

fr Bad Boy exploded after BIGs death. Mase and Puff went on a hell of a run with Lil Kim, too. Puff became raps biggest star for a few years lol

Puff low-key a genius although Machine Gun Funk is fire too

for real
Big Poppa and Juicy are the least lyricial tracks on RTD and they still have better bars and rap flows than any song of the Death Row projects released during the 90-94 period.
Biggie was a master lyricist and also a master hitmaker and songwriter, No Wu member comes close to Biggie in that department

Man dont disrespect snoop and em like that 😂😂 I agree tho Big is my GOAT

just because they didnt peak didn't mean they weren't already running s*** fam. None of Wu's solo s*** came close to the impact Biggie was having other than Meth who was the most unique to the masses and Biggie was still twice as big. Then add Lil Kim, 112, Faith Evans, and the rest there's no way you can claim wu was a bigger movement. Puff's stamp was huge back then especially since musically, he was running s*** more than anyone in NYC. You can't discredit the r&b acts when back then r&b was Hip-Hop Soul. By the time 95 came around, wu as a group was not the face of NYC b. In fact, you can argue Snoop was played in NYC more than wu back then.
Here's a statistical look even though it doesn't tell the full picture.

yeah only thing against em is he doesn’t go outside much but he’s big in like estonia and other random countries. snoop is just everywhere
Man dont disrespect snoop and em like that 😂😂 I agree tho Big is my GOAT
im not disrespecting anyone, Im just stating facts, Tha Chronic and Doggystyle verses were all group efforts and Snoop never said s*** with substance, he had a dope flow, catchy bars and one of the best voices of all time but Biggie did all this s*** alone, flows, bars, hooks, song structures, rhymes schemes. Biggie is the GOAT
