Hip Hop history between like 93-97 is insane. Imagine growing up in that era.

imagine being 18-30 in that era

    would have been goat

i would say one of my earliest memories is hearing if i ruled the world in the kitchen on a saturday clean up type of vibe

    96

hearing certain songs takes me back to that time

    s*** was so much simpler

Neither project have misses imo, Ready To Die is 40 minutes longer and a much more ambitious project, both are top 10 rap albums of all time but Biggie achieved a lot of things Nas couldnt with Ready to Die.

    No misses

It's debatable but remember....Bad Boy didn't even peak until 97....the same year that Biggie died right after Pac's death and the Death row beef.

Diddy's biggest song lowkey capitalized off of Biggie's death although it's sincere.

Before Biggie died, RTD was only double platinum in real time, Craig Mack flopped, and the only platinum selling artists besides Biggie were R&B acts. Biggie's own clique wasn't even signed to Bad Boy and Junior Mafia only went Gold.

Meanwhile, 36 Chambers went triple platinum and the solo rappers like Method Man, ODB, Raekwon, Ghostface, and GZA all went platinum within the 93-96 period.

Before Biggie's death, Bad Boy was only comparable to the Wu if you included their R&B acts but, purely in rap, they weren't bigger than the Wu until Biggie got shot and killed right after the West Coast/East Coast feud.

I don’t think y’all know diverse Bad Boy was in that time alone. Biggie had the Rap AND RnB bag on lock from 94-95 alone. The ladies loved Biggie. The Underground and hip hop heads loved Wu and Nas. This night changed rap cause Biggie’s formula proved to be the more dominant in terms of popularity in NY. The gritty s*** died out after this night in the mainstream. NY had to figure out it’s course of direction in terms of taking over the radio and RTD was just that. Everything after that based off this award show changes everything period.

I never see people mention that Puff and Snoop peaced up on stage that same night AFTER the "all in the videos" line.

Or MFin 69 Boyz in Harlem Globetrotter gear f***ing humping the floor to Tootsie Roll

And Meth killed that f***ing closing spot

fr thats what Questlove is saying in OP. This was the night that classic, grimy NYC sound gave way for the Bad Boy/West Coast glitz and glamor in the mainstream. No coincidence Bad Boy ran s*** for a year or two after BIGs death with their huge, cinematic sound. Even Jay had to switch it up from the mafioso rap to a more commercial sound.
