I’m pro-WFH and think it’s very beneficial for mental health of workers, but at the same time there are downsides to it which I feel aren’t usually acknowledged. The isolating effects of it do have a knock on especially for younger people - the “productivity” aspect is debatable but in general I don’t think it’s just a 100% net good even though for some jobs it’s completely viable

As a person who’s entered the workforce during the last 2 years, the social aspect is definitely a plus, but then there’s the aspect of annoying coworkers that I suppose would be avoidable if I was remote

I think it hurts less sociable young people specifically. The dudes that aren’t going to have it in em to hang out with friends as much (or at all) after a 8-9 hour shift, a in person setting helps them

The 22-23 year old that’s still getting f***ed up on weekends…

You can explain 99% of employer hesitancy with WFH between just a few factors

    1. Not wanting to adjust bullshit bureaucracy
    2. Office lease/bills
    3. Not as common, but the bosses have f***ing nothing going on in their own life and depend on forced office relationships for socialization (a situation I’m familiar with)

There’s rarely actually valid reasons I’ve found

    Hybrid is great tbh

  • Aug 26, 2023

Hybrid, the way to go. Sometimes u do need to leave ur house to be more productive.

But if I had to choose b/n one, wfh>>>

  • Aug 26, 2023

If you can get the job done from home then I'm sorry there's no real good reason to why you need to be in the office to get the same work done.

  • Aug 27, 2023

capitalism has created this idea that you're "stealing" from your employer if you're not working for the full duration of your shift. if someones paying you for 8 hours of labour then its unacceptable for you to be f***ing around on their dollar.

most managers would rather make up fake tasks for you to do than let you relax on their time. ig its easier to maintain guard over employees when they're all physically in one space

  • Aug 27, 2023

easier to focus when wfh and get way more work done. people always bugging me at the office and loud af

I love WFH, if I'm locked in, I can be done with a day's work by like 11:30am

I finish work at like 10am or earlier, game all day, do s*** around the house, go to jiu jitsu during my lunch break, and spend time with my wife.

f*** the office, I go in once a week and twiddle my thumbs all day. S*** is horrible.

Quality of life is a lot better being WFH. I don’t care about making friends at the workplace. I got enough friends and family outside of work as is lmao

my schedule is basically work from 7:45 or 8(depending on when I wake up) and go until like 11:30-11:45, game until 4. Nice perk that I can wear a ratty t-shirt and some basketball shorts and nobody knows. Im near my phone and laptop if unexpected s*** pops up, but, otherwise my day is done. Its also nice that I work on the " east coast team" and they go get s*** faced every Thursday so nobody does s*** Friday

i have to say i dont want it despite a lot of my colleagues wanting it. the teams in my area are full of cool people and we shoot the s*** all day while still getting the work done. If we were to WFH i would have no contact with most of these people as technically our work doesnt cross over despite being in the same dept. I'd maybe like a friday so i can run errands easier but if it wasnt for the work atmsophere id probably leave this job

I zoom enough with my co-workers as it is. We had this big meet up though last year as like this " we haven't seen each other since COVID started, lets all meet up and kumbaya" and I learned that my manager is a boozer. Dude was drinking margaritas and then followed those with red & white wine mixed.

I’m 6-330 with every other Friday off.

Mondays and Fridays are dead for me

I wanna WFH so bad. The crazy s*** is people talking about being isolated and stuff. Literally just do more things outside of work.
