features are cheaper than sample i don't really blame em
its also a lot easier to write an actual song with a person than just working with samples all the time
i think if they had stuck to purely samples we wouldnt have gotten this so soon after wildflower, so im happy they went this route
checked some songs
but why it's so long lol ?
That’s how she be like I guess
Had no issues listening to it in one sitting tho

i have no doubt they have 100 trax from the past two decades that are probably better than this album that would just cost such an insane amount to release + profit from... to release
not even going to get into the gorillaz comparison because i detest them and damon albarn so much but i think this is respectable for what they are working with. i'm also a big darren seltmann was half the brains of sily truther so i would never expect anything like the debut - but the trax on this came closer to that than anything on the last

probably. it makes you wonder how much money they could make off the music they do release with the sheer number of people that want a cut before you’re even allowed to release it.
why the deep hatred for damon albarn btw?
and the main thing w these guys is you still get the feeling that they were dictating the sessions - at least w say the kurt vile and dev hynes trax springing to mind instantly they were so guided by the music presented to em

it would all get stolen by the boomers trying to sue about it. at the same time, do those boomers deserve a cut because they came first??? if it's being sold? absolutely. but i feel like an avalanches dump of mixtapes of those lost years for free would only work to promote everyone involved

i don't want to spoil this thread w my bullshit but i truly hated the uppity 'check out this new s***!!!' attitude of people coming to gorillaz in the 00s early 2010s when the rap artists on those albums i had tried to present to them many years before they dismissed as trash. these people maybe bought a DOOM op doomsday cookie tin or whatever tf they reissued later on but that was because of the cookie tin and not the music. this is not gatekeeping either, just pure disgust at ignorance of any music before it was alongside -cool- british artists
and blur suck full stop

The band put out a little message a few months ago talking about their journey over the last 20 years and mentioned that they've made no money off SILY or Wildflower and are totally broke without homes or cars, but that being able to make the music they do makes it all worth it

well sily money all went to samples and then a decade + of no music w every member incl. half of the brains behind it all....
this is another masterpiece, don't wanna get overexcited but prob gonna be my AOTY.
I now adore all 3 of their albums and each has a different vibe
hardest hitting first listen ive had in ages
incredible album
og user checking back in lol
agree, glad I waited for the right moment to sit down with the whole thing, ended up listening to it 3 times in a row. They did it again
another great album from one of greatest music duos of all time. can’t stop listening to it.
born to lose, the devine chord, we go on, music makes me high, the title track, gold sky, reflecting light
these guys never miss. definitely in my top 5 favourite albums of the year.

i just listened to down with love and end of an era. both of them are so good that they really warrant being as long as they are
im interested how a relatively unknown artist like this can use so many samples though. end of an era has like 26 views on youtube

well it did drop recently. i think she does well by selling physicals and merch
im interviewing her so if you have any questions to ask lmk
music industry can be so cynical these days. so good to have artists like them that love music more than everything else and are not doing it for the money

would love to know more about her sampling process. seeing as we’re in a thread for a band that was held up for 15 years over sample clearances and seem to have no money because of it

it's weird. idk how a small artist like her, without any label behind here, could clear all the samples she has on her albums
like on the last album she sampled lot of famous artists, idk how she could've paid for that
