can we take a minute to appreciate daft punks tribute to the bbs?
namedropping brian wilson on the song teachers off of their first album homework:
from the booklet of homework:
the beach boys cd carefully placed in the middle isnāt some random cheap ass compilation, itās an extra bb cd that came in the european edition of the beach boys back then first box set titled good vibrations in celebration of their 30y career (which you can imagine was very pricey)
also before even becoming daft punk they were in a band named darlinā which they named after this amazing soulful song by the bbs:
and for last, during ram era:
āOnce I saw his car in the parking lot of the studio, and I stopped and stared for two minutes at it,ā said Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. āIt would be too overwhelming to meet Brian Wilson. I think I would faint. Another time in the same parking lot I saw Mick Jagger, but from the back, walking away. I didnāt get lucky.ā

Lou Reed in 1966:
California plastic people came up with California plastic chord changes. Which meant sticking in a Bb before your G, and after your C. Jan and Dean, the Beachboys, as opposed to Negro cooings in the East with shiny saxophones, California plastic concentrated on white twirps and falsetto chirps. (Sidewalk Surfin - the angel chorus- "shake your B. . .uns.") The cult of the celestial choir. There is no god and Brian Wilson is his son. Brian Wilson stirred up the chords. Deftly taking from all sources, old rock, Four Freshman, he got in his later records a beautiful hybrid sound, ("Let Him Run Wild," "Don't Worry Baby," "I Get Around," "Fun, Fun, Fun -- and she had fun, fun, fun till her daddy took her t-bird away"). Like demented unicorns the East went West, and, it, all, made, it. It wasn't really a long cry from such early classics as "Peppermint Stick" by the Elchords (in N.Y. there are stores which sell old rock records for as much as $500).
John Cale:
What Brian came to mean was an ideal of innocence and naivety that went beyond teenage life and sprang fully developed songs. Adult and childlike at the same time. I thought how it was difficult for me not to believe everything he said. There was something genuine in every lyric. That can be a very heavy burden for a songwriter.
John even wrote a song about Brian:
another early one from the same album i love that is by far their most beatles infused one, carl killing it on the vocals:
bruce johnston doesnt bring a lot of songs and when he does he often sticks to classic ballads structures but boi did he nailed it with that one
also covered by art garfunkel (yes, dude of simon and garfunkel)
!https://youtu.be/kx-36TK3PzEspeaking of, if i may while iām at this, the other half, paul simon, himself covered surfer girl at a show in homage to brian wilsonās legacy and it is today i think my favorite beach boys cover, maybe:
!https://youtu.be/sXHsARkfDbwmagnificent, a touch from the sky.
One of my fav Beach Boys songs, that cover is pretty nice.
song worth being spammed tho
sunflower even gets sampled in the game earthbound
!https://youtu.be/E_oc9Ypcb2Q@pneumonia the song sampled is deirde another song written and sang by bruce johnston who did disney girls
!https://youtu.be/IsDYy1l6TQUi believe the guy who made the music for the game said he spent nights going for a ride to listen to brianās album from 1988 and praising it, also said he was a big fan of smiley smile šš
Deirdre Is one of the few songs I return to on Sunflower, another being All I Wanna Do.

hard to not to, i genuinely and legitimately think that smile is the highest peak of the musicās creativity mountain reach possible ever in history of mankind, quote me
but friends is super chill yes! LOVE this instrumental on it, wouldnāt be too far off smile type:
outside of friends, hereās one song i would recommend you, so this is late eighties, brian in a rough spot vocally and the production aged a bit BUT if you get pass that this is by far hands down his most ambitious piece since the smile days:
the true core of definition of a genius, who else makes songs with such strong personality and imagination?

Itās the best work theyāve done imo, Brian is one of the greats.
Production on Rio Grande sounds nice, donāt mind the vocals also. Will give Friends a listen next.
