Schrader's a problematic, egotistical individual. He's always like a few steps away from ruining his career.
Makes great stuff though.

Definitely. Have you watched his interview on his writing process?
Not my style, to me his movies are boring and I say that as someone who loves slower character study type movies
ill watch anything he makes after first reformed, one of my favorite movies of all of the 2010s

Have you seen Diary Of A Country Priest? First Reformed was an amazing sort of homage to that

I dunno if I wasn't in the right mood but I could not get into it, and I usually love Ethan hawke

Yeah it’s definitely slow
Schrader is hilarious. Imagine getting kicked out of a poker club hosted by Paul Dano lol
Gotta see this, need more Oscar in his acting bag
Finished Show Me a Hero two nights ago, and the finale absolutely wrecked me

Great mini series
Is it a slow burn?
Sorta, it's very restrained. Anyone going in expecting a film about gambling should change their expectations, but I don't think anyone that knows the type of films Schrader makes would be expecting that.

Nice! Ok ok so it’s typical Schrader like First reformed and Taxi Driver. More so character study. That’s what I was hoping for rather than high action gambler tryna pay off his debt
