Gotta go with 2001 man. Both classics but 2001 is just so iconic and probably the best mixed hip-hop album ever. So crisp and hard hitting.
2001 has one of the cleanest mixing/mastering of any rap albums I've ever heard. Its also mad nostalgic for me. So 2001.
The Chronic is ahead of its time in terms of mixing/mastering. Its gangster rap at its core, but nothing else really sounds like "The Chronic". 2001, you can say the same thing, it's all just preference, cause both are great albums.
chronic has the best of snoop and dogg pound and that sound is so iconic and smooth but the first half or so of 2001 has prime eminem and obscene production. chronic for snoop and being more consistent
Chronic one of the best sounding rap albums from the early 90s and is just a consistent sounding record
2001 really starts to lose its luster in the last half or so but the highs are bigger. Some of those beats (Still DRE, Xxplosive, Light Speed) are just crazy.
2001 still feels futuristic and has the top 3-4 best songs out of the bunch,
But The Chronic is more well rounded and iconic.
I always go 2001 because that's my favorite style of production ever. That's also the best era of West coast music imo too. Everyone was riding that wave & production style. You had Eastsidaz, Kurupt, Xzibit, etc. putting out amazing albums with that core sound.
2001 is one of the best rap albums ever produced imo. The production is just crazy.
