chronic was a more interesting album to me but the mixing/engineering/melodies on 2001 still ain’t matched 20+ years later

Sure 2001 has incredible mixing and arguably the more iconic hit singles, but the second half is such a fall off from all the singles in the first half. Honestly could’ve ended the album at The Next Episode leaving you with 11 tracks and probably would be THE best album ever.

The Chronic still has very iconic songs and incredible mixing just with a light haze of that early 90’s dust. Overall it feels more consistent, bright and full whereas with 2001 I’d say it is more minimal yet calculated, dark and so vivid with how it’s mixed. From Track 12 to Track 23 on 2001, the only song that really moves the needle for me like on the first half is The Message.

It’s a tough call but I’d say 2001 still gets the win. It’s first half could still wipe the floor with The Chronic respectfully
