This is somehow a response thread to the “Summrs & Kankan scandal”, but also a critique of the current state of this site. So it’s gonna be a long read

Let me start this off by saying I do not condone any of the behavior recently shown by Slayworld members.

While it’s generally “innocent until proven guilty”, these accusations do seem to hold a lot of weight and I could see them containing a lot of truth. So please keep this thread respectful.

For months now I’ve been thinking on how to put people on what I thought could be the new wave of music. Pluggnb.

But these last days made me realize that this isn’t what KTT is about anymore. Nowadays we thrive off negativity and resentment.

This whole Slayworld “situation” is so f***ed up. They threw their careers away before they even started. And the worst thing is they made it even harder for anyone to come up on sc nowadays, because a lot of people seem to think the cause of this is soundcloud.

While it may seem like there’s a lot more weird s*** happening in the (underground) music scene nowadays, it’s really just more prevalent. But I will argue that even if that were case, soundcloud is still one of the best implementations in music history, ever. And that’s because it lets people who would’ve never had the means to make music professionally, grow and build their own sound. We’ve had stars like Uzi, Carti etc because of this. And more to come.

Niggas on this site pick & choose when to let s*** slide and when not to

This is a screen of the TI cancel thread for example

Another example would be the Freddie Gibbs thread last week, when his BM was tryna “cancel” him.

KTT didn’t give a f***. And respectfully, I didn’t either cause who tf does not like Freddie f***ing Gibbs?

But that’s the point. Whenever there’s some bad s*** happening, you already know how that thread’s gonna do numbers. When it’s a “certified” artist no one will care after a week. But whenever it’s someone new & young their name is tainted forever.

Really, to me it seems like this forum is full of bitter, grown ass men, thriving off young adults worst mistakes.

Slayworld thread is the best example for this. S*** got hella traction these last few days and before that there was like 5 of us constantly trying to put y’all on to their music. Now there’s hella people saying “Oh I knew these niggas was weirdos” when y’all was just posting “Who?” a month ago

As much as this forum claims to hate twitter and “cancel culture”, this site isn’t much different anymore. Hot takes and hate took over. No fruitful discussions anymore, just negativity.

Again, I’m not defending Summrs or Kankan’s actions at all. I promise you this has tainted my ability to enjoy their music a lot.

But this situation made me realize how we as a whole forum shifted in the way we discuss music and make threads.

I’ve been wanting to put KTT on Slayworld for a whole year, I just never felt like making a thread because I could already predict the outcome of it. And if there’s one thing that makes us even worse than twitter, it’s when you’re not even able to discuss new music, on a MUSIC FORUM.

I don’t know if there’ll be another shift on the way we discuss music, but as long as it stays like this I’ll just be in my bubble of specific Artist threads. Because the actual state of this site is horrible and no fun at all

Really, to me it seems like this forum is full of bitter, grown ass men, thriving off young adults worst mistakes.

As if this isnt the case with every other platform on the internet. Youre not wrong on every level but KTT is not unique in these feelings, twitter has just trained you to care more about this s***. In the case of Freddie Gibbs there was nothing for us to “cancel” him for other than child support right? Every other thread about our favorite artists getting called out for doing something deplorable is met with compliance. Ezra Koening, Sia, Doja Cat, this list goes on. Do we move on eventually? Yes! We would be f***ing nerds if we actually kept caring instead of just choosing not to support these people silently.

With regard to our reception to new music, sounds like you’re bitter we don’t like the s*** you try and put us on to. There is plenty of gassing up s*** music on this site. This site is also where you’re gonna find every new budding artist gain traction before they get famous. What’s your point really OP? Is there a conclusion here other than “KTT mean :( QQ”

It’s not just KTT that’s like this it’s just the way people are anymore. It’s too easy for people to stay in their own bubbles of music without ever branching out and for some reason they’re just okay with that. People generally are less receptive to new music, but another juicy 20 page gossip thread? Sign them up

  • Yeah I said this back during KTT1 that there was this weird exposal culture of trying to always give someone an L

ngl ktt threads these days just follow a script. You can always almost predict what’s going to be said (and when) before you start reading replies.
