Hip Hop has been restricted to vibes, strip clubs, IG twerking soundtracks and Drill.

I think a lot of it to is people getting their political discourse from other places outside of music now. Also, like someone else has said, a lot of these niggas are just not that good at making a song like that cool in a way that resonates with people.

Another thing it might be:

Song lyrics across the different major American genres are so intrinsically self-centered - and moreso over time with the increasing individuality of music listening via streaming along with the influence of culturally leading, characteristically self-centered lyricists like Taylor Swift and Drake - that socially conscious lyrics would feel uncanny valley to the listener

No one wants to risk their peace and comfortableness for the greater good. It doesn’t affect them… yet… so they rather not rock the boat.
