The “vibes” music took over and any political or conscious music was clowned as “scaring the hoes music “

Hip Hop has been restricted to vibes, strip clubs, IG twerking soundtracks and Drill.

  • I think a lot of it to is people getting their political discourse from other places outside of music now. Also, like someone else has said, a lot of these niggas are just not that good at making a song like that cool in a way that resonates with people.

  • Another thing it might be:

Song lyrics across the different major American genres are so intrinsically self-centered - and moreso over time with the increasing individuality of music listening via streaming along with the influence of culturally leading, characteristically self-centered lyricists like Taylor Swift and Drake - that socially conscious lyrics would feel uncanny valley to the listener

  • No one wants to risk their peace and comfortableness for the greater good. It doesn’t affect them… yet… so they rather not rock the boat.

everyone i know who has to tour to make a living, has fully turned on their own passion.

whenever i talk to them they just tell me how much they struggle with keeping up with their schedule and how sad it makes them to have to constantly do "x,y, and z" because they're in their 30s and now don't really have any other career options.

That’s bc they are naive enough to beleive that passion alone will suffice
You need to be built for this music s*** you can’t survive without having the business acumen and straight edge instincts one needs to keep afloat

This why I’ll never forgive them SoundCloud rappers for talking down on artists who have depth

Yeah this has a lot to do with it too. They made it kind of "uncool" to have depth.

    who?

    a ''rapper with content"

  • Plenty smaller artists are making music that addresses the current political zeitgeist.

Ten years ago we got hella political music from the bigger artists. BLM and 1st Trump term.

2020 we got hella political music I think Ski Mask the Slump God even had one 🤣

Besides Covid s*** has been pretty regular outside of everybody being broke af. This Trump s*** has only been going on for a year and hasn’t even really boiled over enough to get people off the phone and in the streets fr. S*** simply isn’t real enough yet.

Political music always comes when it’s supposed to imo at least the kind that reaches a lot of people
