Ai can be used to make dope art ONLY if youre already a dope artist imo

Random ppl using these tools will just make generic bullshit

Exactly what i mean. This is how a new genre is created. People who have passion taking things that are considered slop and making true art

I guess when ppl say that, they mean that people who are explicitly "in those positions" already now have less leverage to fight for their wage I guess. Especially if an armchair critic can get the hang of prompting in a few weeks

The problem with AI is that it has the potential to do insane work in the hands of a very smart person.

But if you hand an AI tool to a person of average or below average competence it will often degrade the quality of work.

The special effects in movies are looking worse because people are relying on new technology for special effects but can barely make use of them.

It’s the same reason why all the new video games have a the same blurry filter out on the distance to “clean up the background” (a lazy ass design workaround).

Plus AI generative special effects are not the end all be all. The physics based special effects systems like the one used in the Avatar movie offers better results but requires a certain level of technical knowledge which most of these people lack in the field

well if i can cut 80% of my team because i dont need writers, cameramen, VFX artists etc thats going to lead to less jobs and more competition (duh)

I think its good from a social perspective because it moves entertainment away from being monopolized by corporations

Feel like for actual filmmaking, the thing you need to look at is what Jia Zhangke managed to put together in a couple days.

Jia is one of the all time great Chinese directors, has a distinct voice and focus on China's rapid development and the problems stemming from it, and said he'd try out Seedance to see how it worked. This was his result and its not only a story you can follow, but retains his cinematic style pretty well, while serving as a reflection of AI in a convo between "AI Jia" and "real Jia" (both are AI) and reflections of his previous work

i think the idea that AI can do everything and theres no need to focus on traditional methods is very shortsighted, people who learn how to merge the two will be the most successful

It's still monopolized by corps because there's no true way (yet) to build your own "AI" that doesn't funnel usage costs back to them, right? You're still using their API
