Midsteppers is a good album, i thoroughly enjoyed every listen i gave it. all them songs is good to me and i appreciate the themes, but what stops it from being great to me is how jarring i find Kodak narrating it and the themes clashing.

Kendrick doesnt wanna be anybody savior wanna humanize himself then turns around and says he set free abusers/those wjo have been abused, and it just like wtf to me lol. i can see that as him battling a savior complex right in front of the audience though.

hmm now i wanna relisten to DAMN and this

Yeah it's all subjective. I said it earlier itt, I don't need to constantly listen to an album to rank it highly.

But for me, Kendrick is one of my favorite artists so Mr. Morale not sticking with me for more than a month or less really when it came out this year is a knock on it in that regard even though it's pretty good as an album

idk, personally i think how people listening to music over these last couple of years have shifted drastically

when DAMN dropped i couldn't browse on the internet anywhere at all without reading about some theory or someone breaking down different parts of the album, trying to come up with meanings for it and it actually being somewhat accurate etc.

this album dropped and people are still confused as to why he's wearing a crown of thorns while simultaneously proclaiming that he isn't your savior on the project

maybe the world has gotten too quick to care about conceptual projects and the like anymore (not saying you in particular, but i would imagine that's partially the reasoning for the shallow and misconceived critiques about the album's actual concept and message)

    Dumb piece of s***

I got the same feeling on Swans. Like they are an amazing band that trascends the medium but bro, 2 hours for album is a lot of time

one of the best examples frfr

Like it’s some truly incredible stuff but I need to be in the mindset to truly appreciate it and i’m not often in the mood where I have 40 minutes to just be contemplative

Would an album full of bangers add such variety to his discog tho?

Yes it would, do you remember Jay's discog before Kanye, Just Blaze, and Bink? Those producers helped take his catalogue to another level. Reasonable Doubt through INML Vol 3 didn't have as many banger/ arena friendly songs as the albums to follow.

That was a pivotal era in Jay's career.

I've seen those songs live. People like those songs, but they don't bring the type of energy we're talking about.

it's hilarious because niggas like him would've been stanning dej loaf or bryson tiller when they were hot on the billboard, but as soon as they're not popping off, they act like they dont know no one

Just the phrasing is crazy to me I had to double take

Like enjoying art for art sake is bad & “media consumption” is good is the wave we’re on ? On the music forum? full speed ahead straight to hell

Kendrick talking bout he's not a savior but at the same time literally wants credit for BREAKING A GENERATIONAL CURSE. Bro do U want ppl to look up to U or not? How TF U break a generational curse by admitting U cheat on your wife and accusing rappers of hiding sexual abuse trauma through violent posturing. Dude is delusional and confused.
