    @wes

holy f*** at the VA, the dialogue and the change of her facial expression

Also you asked me what I feel about Beatrices character a few days ago and I f***ing love her man

Seeing her kinda become friends with Shannon was actually really cool, I loved the relationship between them; that being said, it turns out Beatrice was just being evil asf and just wanted to see her suffer later on lol. I feel like some of the s\*\*\* that Beatrice was telling Shannon about herself was true though. Like people not appreciating her/only wanting to talk to her when they wanted something from her, idk made me feel like she was kinda lonely

Man, forreal. Some of those facial expressions get pretty intense lol.

And yeah man, her character is great. She only gets better and better too. It is nice to see her interact with someone besides Battler and having a maybe/possibly genuine conversation with someone. The character interactions are definitely one of my favorite things about this VN.

Also, damn, you are flying through

@wes I have finished Episode 2 and holy f*** at the last part of that episode that was surreal asf.

Also Rosa is a batshit insane and disgusting character but I feel really bad for her and im really rooting for her to do well

The post episode where Beatrice was making Rosa eat her family members was also sad asf too, shes done some bad s\*\*\* but she really didn’t deserve that s\*\*\* man smh. Battler coming in clutch at the end had me hype asf though it really looked like he was done with how ep 2 ended. Really looking forward to how Episode 3 gonna turn out, need my boy Battler to go on the offensive after that L

When this track came in for the first time I no longer any idea wtf is going on in the story

Yeah, Rosa is, uh, not the best person in the world lmao. Definitely didn't deserve to have to eat her family though.

Ep 3 is definitely where it starts ramping up in terms of what the VN is all about, if that makes any sense. It's also a very good one ( pretty long from what I remember too) and I think you'll enjoy it quite a bit.

    Battler definitely the GOAT protagonist

The OST is too good, man. A ton of genre variety and they all slap

    Umineko Ch3 spoilers

@wes Theres actually too much insane s\*\*\* going on in EP3 to put into this post. All imma say is that Eva becoming a watch caught me extremely off guard; currently at the bit where EVA-Beatrice is torturing Rosa, EVA-Beatrice seems even more unhinged than Beatrice holy f\*\*\*. Also they gotta leave my girl Rosa alone man lmao.

    EDIT

Also I HAVE to bring this up but the battle between Beatrice and OG Beatrice was insane; I was not expecting for her to make an appearance like that. Her presence is very welcome, she is on Battlers side but I kind of like how she gives Beatrice advice anyway. Also the whole scene of Eva solving the Epitaph and finding the room gave me goosebumps, the music and her VA was just perfect

No kidding man, ep 3 is stupid good. I initially didn't expect the epitaph to be solved until way later in the VN, but in hindsight, it kinda makes sense for it to be this early since this is in the latter half of the Questions Arc. But yeah man, Eva was a demon before, but EVA-Beatrice is a DEMON demon. Love the voice acting for her too.

It is pretty nice that Battler has some sort of support (besides Bernkastel since she doesn't really pop up too much) with the OG Beatice. I'm also a huge fan of Ronove.

As for that fight between the two Beatrices, I wasn't expecting much of a show, but I think they did a really good job showing a fight despite it being a VN. I also wasn't sure how much they were going to lean into the magic stuff, but once I saw this fight, I knew the rest was gonna be batshit crazy.

Think this happened back in ep 2, but this s*** kills me every time

I haven't been posting my thoughts cause im too immersed to stop and write that s*** down @wes but I just finished EP5 and thought I may as well write this long ass post thats gonna read like random ramblings

Too much s*** to talk about since last time I posted about this so I might miss some things

    EP3

This b\*\*\*\* Beatrice really tricked me man holy f\*\*\*, I was as betrayed as Battler when it was revealed that Beatrice was just playing with him this whole time being buddy buddy with him and trying to team up with him to take down EVA. Also Kyrie/Rudolf are the coolest pair ever, that whole showdown with Kyrie/Rudolf vs the Stakes was cool as s\*\*\*. Kyrie was a complete badass against Leviathan that s\*\*\* actually gave me chills

Also this nigga Rudolf is complete garbage man lmaoo

Hearing how she kinda despises Battler since he reminds her of her failures kinda hurt to hear tho; the game did mention at the beginning that their relationship was a bit awkward but they always seemed really cool so I completely forgot about it till this point

Ending of this episode was really good ofc with the Beatrice betrayal, but I started getting the feeling some weird s\*\*\* was going on as soon as Natsuhi and Eva started being friendly to each other lmao. Ange appearance was cool as f\*\*\*, had no idea who this person was but as soon as she started saying Battlers iconic phrase I got hype as f\*\*\*

This track playing at the end of the episode with Ange and Bernkastel just felt magical

    EP4

Standout of this episode gotta be the Rosa/Maria f\*\*\*ery man, this episode took it to another level with how trash Rosa really is

The confrontation with Maria/Rosa in Purgatory gotta be the most insane conversation I have ever seen man. Rosa literally telling her daughter she hated her before she was even born, and despite Maria torturing her she continues to laugh and call her daughter complete garbage cause that's how much she hates her; scene was actually heart-breaking. I was really rooting for Rosa to become a better mother to Maria after the end of EP2 but her hatred for Maria actually seems endless. She out here pretending to be at work when she really on vacation looking for d\*\*\* lmaooo, and when she gets exposed she says s\*\*\* like this smh

Ange gotta be one of my favourite characters in this so far too, really out here jumping from skyscrapers and walking it off, I love her man; following her around in the 1998 fragment was pretty cool and also important as this episode has a big focus on what magic really is

I love how cold she is too man; she was out here surrounded by her aunt and bodyguards with gun pointed towards her and just tells her to kill herself; really doesnt give af lmao. I'm assuming it was Amakusa that killed off everyone in this scene but it was just made to look like magic

Also holy f\*\*\* at the shonen esque fights in this episode, the one with Krauss and the goat was especially absurd man, the whole death flag s\*\*\* had me rolling, Krauss really out here winning DBZ tournaments

George was an absolute boss in his fight against Gaap too

Best scene in this episode by far gotta go to Ange hugging Battler and telling him to come home, that s\*\*\* had me tears man

Last random thing but I gotta give a shoutout to Kinzo in everyone of these episodes cause anytime hes on the screen its always gold

Think il post my thoughts on EP5 later, Erika Furudo is a f***ing character tho il say that

    Been waiting for this

Beatrice had me FOOLED man. Once her and Virigilia were asking Battler to sign the paper, I was thinking "this is kinda weird", then like 10 seconds later, you see their evil ass smiles.

Loved seeing Rudolf and Kyrie fight the stakes since they really haven't gotten a ton of screen time at this point. Plus both of em are cool as hell lol.

Ange's story is also really f\*\*\*ing good man. Feel so bad for her throughout ep 4

Same with Maria too, because holy f\*\*\*, Rosa is by far the most evil character in this story (for human characters anyways lol). The scene where Maria was torturing Rosa was pretty insane too. Ep 4 hurts because Maria has to deal with Rosa's bs, Sakutarou gets killed, and Maria justifies her situation as being okay because someone has to be the kid who gets bullied.

For being a stuffed animal, his theme is so good

I was also hyped as hell seeing Krauss fighting the goat servants|| :dead: ||Similar to Rudolf and Kyrie in ep 3, it's really nice to see him since you don't get to see him very much since his ass dies so early in every ep lmao.

bro this s*** had me in tears when I saw it

on a related note, this is easily one of my top 5 songs from Umineko

As for Erika, god man, I f\*\*\*ing hate her, but she's so good so at the same time, I love her. Such a good character man.

Now that you're in the answers arc, you have any idea what the answer to the mystery is or what Battler's sin might be? The answer gets a bit more clear with each ep.

dreamenddischarger such a good f***ing song man

There was also a lot of good music during the end of EP5 during the court scene but im not tryna look up the track names rn incase I get spoiled

Bro that face Virgilia made is gonna give me nightmares holy f\*\*\*, I knew some s\*\*\* was up as soon as they were asking Battler to sign contracts but I was NOT expecting that face lmao

Man f\*\*\* all those classmates bullying Ange man, I love Anges relationship with the stakes so that scene where Ange was crying in frustration in the school at being bullied to read that note the class made and then pretty much killed off all the stakes was heartbreaking

Rosa is such a great character but is probably one of the most despicable out of all the siblings, probably because she inherited all the bad traits from every single one of them and was the subject of every single siblings frustration growing up; really hate to see it. Maria is such a pure character man, her reasoning that someone had to get bullied is so sad. Also I forgot to mention this before but when Kiries sister was reading Marias diary and it was revealed that Marias "uuu-u" was a magic to always be friends with Rosa really took me the f\*\*\* out man, I really had to pause for a few mins there that s\*\*\* blew my mind; was actually so f\*\*\*ing sad

Battlers reasoning that small bombs expoded inside peoples stomachs was hilarious lmfaooo, im glad Bernkastel and Lambadelta kept bringing that back up in EP5 and how ridiculous that was; I love Battler man

On to Battlers sin, I still have no f\*\*\*ing clue on how to solve the epitaph or Battlers sin. I feel like solving the epitaph requires knowledge of the Japanese language which im clearly lacking. As for Battlers sin; it clearly has something to do with the Human version of Beatrice I feel like he somehow made a promise to her when he was young and he broke that promise. I'm pretty sure that Battler somehow forgot Beatrices existence and this whole game is to get Battler not to recognise Beatrice as a witch but that s\*\*\* actually existed

    EP5 Spoilers @wes

Quick thoughts on EP5 but this might be my favourite episode so far, Bernkastel and Erikas presence just make this chapter batshit insane and the way the truths were presented in that demon court room felt really fantastical and also complete nonsense with the whole Knoxs commandments s\*\*\* and the truth clearly being constructed from plays on words. The music and action during that court room was seriously 10/10 too, really one of the best presented scenes in the game

Natsuhi takes a lead on this episode again, just like the first episode, get to know a bit more about her character in this one though, such as the secret baby that she supposedly killed. I always thought she was really submissive and would just do as Krauss said so hearing her real thoughts on Krauss was eye opening; also turns out Krauss is a complete idiot and trusts people too much lmao

Erika Furudo is an annoying little s\*\*\* but also entertaining as f\*\*\* lmao. Actually insane character, its clear that shes a personification of the Knoxs commandment with how she heavily enforces some of those rules via her actions such as making it impossible for anyone to enter the guesthouse because she somehow sealed off literally every single entrance (just because) and its impossible for hidden entrances/exits to exist simply because she exists. The idea of her putting her head against the wall and listening in on Battler as he sleeps the whole night is so ridiculous man

I love Dlanor A. Knox, she a real one just for saying this

The introduction of the Knox Commandments and the Witch Hunters was really cool man, really convinient for the human side but I did doubt it a lot because this story doesnt feel like it abides to all the rules of the mystery genre so I'm actually really glad that the end of the episode also questions whether this game even abides by Knoxs Commandments and that the commandments can actually be interpreted in many different ways.

One more shoutout to Dlanor A. Knox.

Again, the court room scene was probably the most fantastical s\*\*\* so far, it was really a court room of lies. Battlers finding out the "truth", becoming the territory lord and then using the "gold" was so satisfying after all the nonsense Erika was spouting man

Bonus Pics of Bernkatel being an absolute savage, I love her man

dude yeah, I was gonna bring it up, but couldn't remember exactly where it happened in the story, so I didn't wanna risk any spoilers lol. I knew there had to be some reason Maria was saying that all the time, but couldn't really figure out what. S\*\*\* was really sad to see when Kyrie's sister was reading the diary.

Now that I'm thinking about it, ep 4 definitely has some of my favorite tracks. And pretty much all of them are sad because they're used in Maria's/Ange's backstory lol.

Dai is such a good composer man. I finished up Higurashi a couple weeks back and damn near every song in the answers arc is from Dai. His piano arrangements really get me

I agree with you on the epitaph. I'm not really sure if it's possible to solve the epitaph unless you REALLY know that stuff. As for his sin, I won't confirm or deny anything, but I'm very curious to see what you think as you finish up the next ep or two.

Echoing what you said, the addition of Erika & the commandments really make everything a bit more structured and grounded (no more small bombs though, unfortunately lol).

When I first started, I didn't expect to see much of Natsuhi in the story, but I'm glad her character gets fleshed out. Her backstory def got even more interesting with the addition of the baby (also very sad, though that seems to be the case with a lot of these backstories lol).

    somewhat related

Shit had me dead when Battler jumped out the window of Kinzo's room.

Dlanox is great man, I love her character and design so much. I have no idea how there's so many characters, yet pretty much all of them are very likeable. I can't really think of any I particularly dislike. Sure, some might not have the most fleshed out backstories or something, but they're all pretty solid at the very least. Also am a very big fan of Lambdadelta.

I was wondering when Battler was gonna get the cloak, since I saw it when I was looking into reading this, so that scene where he pulls out the golden truth was so hype

Bernkastel and Erika are definitely some of my fav characters in this. I didn't expect to see Bernkastel to be as antagonistic as she is when she was first introduced at the end of the first ep. Erika is incredibly entertaining, especially in ep 6\. You'll know when you see it lol.

also, feel free to add me on discord if you wanna talk about it on there wes#7501

Natsuhi is too loyal to Kinzo man for what he really thinks of her man

Also I was not expecting Battler to ACTUALLY jump out the window man lmao, even when he did I was doubting if that s\*\*\* was really real until the family actually reacted to him jumping out the window. The aftermath of that being "yep, Kinzo could definitely jump out the window despite his age" had me rolling; Erika was the only one questioning it

Imma def add you on discord bro

I wasn't entirely too sure what he was planning with that either lol. I initially thought the window was a pretty obvious escape route, but yeah, didn't expect his ass to jump out.

Everyone's reaction was just "hmm, yeah, Kinzo has done crazier things before; I can see him doing that for sure".

    Finished umineko f***ing peak fiction 10/10 @wes

Actually been done for a few days, after having it sink for a while I think The House In Fata Morgana was better written but the message of Umineko gonna stick with me for life. Don't think I will ever get into something better than these 2 VNs. Main reason I think The House in Fata Morgana is better is just cause I feel like Ryukishi07 has this tendency to explain the same thing over and over again (EP8 was especially repetitive).

I heard that quite a lot of people didnt like how EP8 ended, since they didnt get the 'truth' of what happened but to me it seems like the message of these past few episodes went completely over their heads; honestly thought it was the best ending possible. Revealing the truth would kinda diminish this whole arc

Also Battler has to be one of the greatest mcs of all time I f***ing love that guy man

Might post thoughts on each episode later

I completely agree. I think Umineko might slightly edge out The House in Fata Morgana for me, but that opinion changes day by day. Like you said, I don't think I will ever experience anything as good as these two. Def gonna be chasing that high for a long time.

The writing was a bit repetitive at points for sure. Gonna chalk that up to some of the concepts/terms (ie Hempel's Raven) "needing" to be beaten into the reader's head lol.

Though I thought the ending was f***ing perfect man. I broke down HARD when everyone was saying welcome back to Battler at the end. Watched it again a couple weeks ago and I cried like a b****

Did you guess who the culprits were and the reasoning behind it all? You were actually on the right track when you mentioned Battler forgot about Beatrice's "human" form lol. I KNEW Kyrie & Rudolf had something to do with it since they never really got a ton of development early on, and I figured they'd have to get SOMETHING since they're Battler's & Ange's parents. Though I never would've figured out how they did it. My dumbass never thought each ep would have different accomplices; just assumed it'd be one person lol. Was also pretty suspicious of Shannon/Kanon because of a few things I saw, but once ep 7 came around and soft-confirmed it was Sayo, it all made a lot more sense.

Wish we got more of Will and Lion, ESPECIALLY Will. He's so f\*\*\*ing cool

I'd check out the ep 8 manga whenever you get a chance since it's a bit like a director's cut and more explicitly explains stuff whereas the VN kinda lets the reader guess a bit more. It also reveals the culprit in ep 5

this scene from ep 6 killed me man. I love and hate Erika so much lmao.

Battler is top 1 MC of all time. He's too good

These songs from 7 & 8 are so f***ing good man

Not quite as good as Umineko & Fata Morgana, but the Utawarerumono trilogy has some GOOD ass writing man. I think the series has a top 3 ending OAT for me; along with Umineko and Fata Morgana. Finished that series up a few weeks back and I was completely blown away (also had me in tears a few times lol). They're kinda/sorta JRPGs as well, so not strictly VNs (though I just used Cheat Engine to trivialize the gameplay lol). I think the third game is rated #5 on VNDB above Fata Morgana as well.

    on the culprit

I was going to talk about this on my EP6 thoughts but I guess i'll talk about it now. So during EP6 I was so f\*\*\*ing confused on why Shannon/George & Kannon/Jessica has to fight each other. Near the end of EP6 Battler when Battler finds out the truth I pretty much realised it myself as well when it was going through his thoughts

At this point I was going f\*\*\*ing crazy, I knew that whoever Beatrices human form must have had some romantic feeling for Battler and the only woman on the island at Battlers age was Shannon, the only hint that Shannon and Battler had a relationship was like at the very start of EP1 when Shannon mentions the embarrassing thing Battler told her about coming in with a white horse, funny enough the prev episode when Battler jumped out of Kinzo and caught Beatrice she also mentions a white horse but I thought that was a reach so didnt see any connection there. But when the image above came in and the whole Shannon vs Kannon situation and how they kept mentioning they can't live with each other I felt like I pretty much got confirmation about Shannon being Beatrice. The whole Kannon situation still confused me till the final part of EP6 where Battler and Beato says theres only 17 people on the island, that ending sequence with the song playing with the vocals this time had me going crazy holy f\*\*\* man, that s\*\*\* was ecstasy. That being said I wasn't completely certain until the scene in EP7 with Shannon & Will, and Will asks her to call Kannon out here; at this point I was 100% certain that they are the same person

Feel the same way about Lion & Will, I f\*\*\*ing love the whole idea about Lion too, hes a literal miracle born from like a million fragments, I loved EP7 man

I f\*\*\*ed up on the end of ep6 since Battler & Beatrice mention there only being 17 people, but I accidentally double-clicked and only saw a part of the dialogue, which went straight into the credits. Told myself "I think I got it" and it turns out, I was very wrong

Wasn't really too far off in my assumptions, but the whole Zepar/Furfur being the ambiguous gender implication for Sayo and Shannon vs. Kanon went completely over my head lol. I was just thinking, "damn crazy these guys are fighting huh"

I saw people on reddit talking about the convos between Battler & Shannon so that kinda tipped me off there was something up with her, but I always assumed Beatrice was a real person at that point (which I guess she is, but not THE Beatrice lol). I dunno how ppl solved this s*** prior to the Answers arc. I would've killed to be apart of those discussions when this was still releasing every few months or so lol.

Forget if it was chapter 7 or 8, but when Featherine found the person with amnesia, I was thinking "bro.. if this is Battler I'm gonna pop off", and then it got revealed at the end of ep 8

His circumstances were actually pretty sad in the end. Everyone dies, forgets who he was, and is not "really" Battler.

Absolutely love these CGs too man

Also, f***ing crazy how Rudolf SWAPPED the babies

fucking love that CG with Ange and Battler man; I love Ange as a character in general, feel like this was really her story man.

Also I did NOT put together the Battler flashback for some reason I thought it was Ange?? Idk why but that scene went completely over my head and for some reason I thought it was Tohya, and Featherine took over her body or some s\*\*\* lmaoo; completely missed it so when it was revealed that it was Battler I was losing my mind

  • Aug 10, 2022

@wes Rudolf is a f\*\*\*ing fiend man, how the f\*\*\* you swap babies, felt like that came outtta nowhere, I had to pause for a good minute cause I had no idea what the f\*\*\* was going on anymore

  • Aug 10, 2022

@wes I still can't believe Erika really went ahead and really killed all the people pretending to be dead, she is wlid as f\*\*\*, 100% the most entertaining character in umineko, also the pettiest character oat, she didnt have to do this to Maria man

For sure, especially at the end where you get the choice between the Magic or Trick ending. Plus you get her POV for a solid chunk of the story as well.

I also just assumed it was Ange at first. Figured it was after she jumped from the roof or something along those lines, and just lost her memory. Then I think it mentioned the Rokkenjima/Ushiromiya murders and then it just clicked in my head that it was (probably) Battler.

Erika just decapitated everyone to prove her point She's definitely the most entertaining character and her VA absolutely killed the role too.

The pirate hat had me dead

Also bro Kinzo is a f\*\*\*ing MENACE. Has a child with the real Beatrice then has relations with his daughter, who has a kid who ends up being Sayo
