Bill Burr
holy f*** the rollerblading part
I haven’t listened yet, but Andrew Schulz on JRE could be one step away from a klan rally.

what why
what do you guys think of the recent Bret Weinstein podcast?
A lot of good parts but got kinda boring the final 30-45 minutes

I like the Weinstein bros a lot, they generally have some interesting stuff to say. I def think a lot of it was kinda repetitive tho, especially the last hour or so like you said. I have to admit unfortunately too tho, some of Bret's commentary rubs me the wrong way. He's right to a degree about some stuff with modern cultural splits, especially regarding irrationality and stuff, but I can't really tell what their (him and his brother)'s deeper attempts at advocacy sometimes are really getting at.
Like they fall in such a weird sphere of traditional liberalism despite their theories falling so far outside that realm of social acceptance, I can't fully tell what they're getting at all the time. Like does really think the current system can be reformed bottom to top? Eric clearly doesn't, but he and Bret still constantly will contradictory talk about wanting to save the essence of the US, or the core values of US society. it's just a weird dichotomy to me. I compare this with someone else from JRE, Malice, who basically agrees with most of their rhetoric but thinks the system is completely broken we we should just let people secede
i love these things
Why is this so tense lmao

i always saw it as bret saying he wants to save the essence of modernist logical thought from the post-modernist wave that directly combats those ideas
he feels post-modernist thought takes on a sort of religious form, and history shows us what happens when religion of any form begins to overtake all aspects of how a society thinks and acts, the followers of the religion feel there is no other valid viewpoint outside of their realm of thought and values, and anyone who stands outside is a direct threat to their life (hence the trend of progressives having to explain to angry mobs why they aren’t left enough)
bret sees the importance of civil conversation and seeing it disappear in a setting that should be full of it (a classroom) rightfully worried him. I can’t speak on his brother though because i havent watched him enough
still havent watched the new podcast with bret either, so ill keep in mind the things you said for when i do

Definitely, and I feel there is some truth to a degree in distinguishing secular societal beliefs as pseudo-religious. I understand where they're coming from to that extent; same with the importance of civil debate/conversation. It's less that that bothers me (even if post-modern has unfortunately become a bit of a buzzword), and more like the kind of political angle of it. Like his brother Eric for example very clearly thinks the entire system is broken from the top down - his focus recently on Epstein/Maxwell and similar constitute that, same with Bret's focus on academia & corporate signaling. But for all of that, I guess it's just that they still seem oddly sympathetic toward wanting to rebuild the system that's allowed it foster, rather than seek alternatives? On one of Eric's recent podcasts, one of his guests actually called him out on this - he said it was inevitable Eric would slide into flanderization of neoconservative tenets unless he found himself actively suggesting alternative theory. It was one of the more tense moments i've seen

that last instance you brought up is interesting. Like i said i gotta listen to more of what Eric has to say myself, but i will say i recall him kind of rubbing me the wrong way when he was on here a while back. Though that may just be due to my lack of knowledge regarding his context/background
Never seen these old episodes but they’re weirdly relevant for 2020, duncan really one of the best guests

Issa joke, but Schulz needs Charlemagne to balance him out sometimes and JRE let’s white ppl with problematic opinions run wild. Not saying Schulz is problematic but he walks that line sometimes. Still one of my favorite comics.

Joe Rogan is the entrance to the alt right
🙄 Get real
I like Joe as a person, but his podcast is definitely the entrance to the alt right. It starts with Joe, then you start checking out Ben Shapiro, then you start listening to Candace Owens and Steven Crowder, and then before you know you’re subscribed to Breitbart “News”
JRE needs more racial minority political voices on the show. He stay inviting alt right leaders and when it’s a black political voice it’s like Candice Owens, Colion Noir, and Hotep Jesus (with a few exceptions ofc).

Those are all actual racist right wing talking heads though, I don’t think it’s fair to lump Joe together with them. His views are much more nonpartisan and he called them out on their dumb s*** when they appeared on the podcast
Left wing people like Bernie Sanders and Kyle Kulinski come on the show and he agrees with what they say, but nobody ever accuses him of being an entrance to the far left after those

I mean he rarely has lefties over, while just one right wing guy gets like 3 episodes in a year lol.
