worth a read. 350+ other defectors question her story. which has changed multiple times. seems like her entire grift now is to go on Jordan Peterson or Glenn Beck and to decry the atrocities of north korean communism then flippantly say that American “wokeism” is worse than that.

She is 100% being grifted through but I’m not sure or convinced she’s a grifter herself. The problem is with a lot of these types of people is they do have valid backgrounds and experiences but they don’t have the knowledge of western society and political intricacies to know they’re being taken advantage of. This has happened similarly with a lot of “anti-liberal” North African refugees in the Netherlands and the UK, who get promoted by this same circuit of people to spread an agenda for which they fit the bill of (I.e JRE, JBP, Dave Rubin, Quilette, whoever else), but it doesn’t necessarily mean the person themselves is a grifter. However I also think on the other hand there are people who come from legitimate backgrounds who play up their struggle/past as a career because they find themselves to be otherwise unemployable early on

should probably read the article so you know what i’m talking about. blithely accepting everything she herself says - like so many Joe Rogan listeners will do - puts you in no position to have an informed position. Read the dissent and contradictions so your perspective will be at least plausible

When she defected she joined a South Korean tv show with other defectors. Her shows are accessible and since then her story has changed significantly. Many contradictory events.

From the footage, it appears that she was part of the upper crust of society in North Korea, even remembering that her mother owned a Chanel purse. She said she believed the other defectors were fabricating their stories for the sake of a sensationalized tv show because she could not relate to them at all. It’s all in the article.

Seems like her function now is to continually make her story worse, then turn and say it’s just like cancel culture.

politics aside Joe himself has always been the worst part of JRE by a huge margin and the real pull of the podcast has always been the guests. while comedian and politics grifter episodes are annoying, some of the guests he has on are genuinely insanely interesting and topical and it's hard to find competent alternatives. for example the episodes with the sleep doctors or neurologists are insanely interesting and actually applicable, and the episodes with archaeologists, journalists, physicists, etc. are way beyond the quality of what most other podcasts have, next to the star power of some guests he can pull (i.e. Tarantino, Jay Leno). Unfortunately Joe is a terrible host but i don't think the vast majority of people listening to the podcast actually care about him himself

I'm not familiar with this person but I read the article you posted, and found it curious how she responded to it, but chose to ignore some valid criticisms the journalist pointed out.
