I find the discourse around these games interesting because gameplay never comes up lol.
I understand these are story focused games but the reason I'm not overly fond of Part 1 is because the gameplay is pretty basic, while Part 2 makes significant strides in gameplay but is regarded as inferior only due to the story.
Do y'all even enjoy this series as a game, or is it just a vehicle for the story?
Good question I enjoyed the gameplay of part 1 but as I’ve said multiple times towards the end of part 1 ( even before a 2 was announced ) it became a vehicle for the story because the violence had worn on me . S*** even a game Ioved from my one time of bioshock infinite dealt with the same ludonarrative kind of conflicts . Except with last of us you add in its hyper realistic. Yes 2 gameplay improvements are huge and significant but story wise I get tired of murdering people in unique ways , hordes of enemies especially humans because of how graphic it is . S*** I dealt with the same thing with mission design of gta v .
Just beat 2 f*** Abby and Ellie went out sad as f***
So how’d you like it
So how’d you like it
One of the best games I’ve ever played s*** has my heart in pieces

Are you sensitive to graphic depictions of violence in media? I wouldn't say I am but even I felt some type of way with how violent and visceral Part 2 is

I have grown up playing video games most of my entire life. I have countless gaming magazines. I have played the major fighting games, gory games, GTA all of that. S*** I have debated how violence in video games doesn't directly correlate to reality in school. The violence in Last of Us 2 is different than any game I can think of. Like Last of Us 1 even bothered me to some degree or like "damn this a lot of humans vs the infected I expected " or " damn this interrogation scene rivals jack bauer". The thing with a 24 jack bauer or violence in most things like a hitman or GTA is its cartoony, over the top, not realistic. Last of Us 2 is damn near a murder simulator. yes its survival but lol if I shut the console down all the characters survive
Like lets say a last of us 3 does happen GOODNESS
Neil is open to a The Last of Us Part 3 game, but it depends on whether the team can "come up with a compelling story that has this universal message and statement about love."

Hopefully the show doesn't skimp out on the violent death of Joel .

I want it to be even more graphic

Isn’t that what the first game was about?

For many the second game was about that as well

No I mean in early interviews I swear naughty dog classified the first game as a game of “love” and the second game as a game of “hate”

I still think the focus of 2 in many interviews since has been the extent of what we do for love because that deals with the ending essentially the hate is self loathing in a way because she can never fully forgive Joel or get more time with him who she loves . She was charged more by her love of Joel than her hatred of Abby. Her hatred of abby is solely from knowing she will never have a minute with Joel again but deep down inside she knows Joel in some ways deserved to die or would die
so its a bit of both they have a dark view of love

in short its about perception same way shadow of colossus is about love but also about loves control to get you to be violent or controlled a la a virus
Horrible news, R.I.P.
That’s fkn awful man RIP

Jocelyn is hilarious just watched her yakuza playthrough
Was the Director's Cut ever confirmed by Naughty Dog?
I want to replay the game but might wait if that comes out
