Funny you guys are talking about this cause I watched this earlier and she brought up the same criticism at 3 minutes in, she even mentioned Children of Men
And yeah I agree
!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMUrAVtIQfwlol she basically saying for exactly for what I said from minute 5 on. Been saying all week. Glad she worded it well
she's the goat. only review channel i enjoy watching
Imma follow her cause she gets it for most part

Same. Soon as I saw both Cowboy Bebop and The Sopranos on her channel I was like
not bait? i’m srs lol not talking about production design specially the cam/lens
it just has a very digital look. i bet i'll get used to it but it stood out to me too
a lot of the quarantine zone set design looked SUPER faithful to the game, but i just dont know how i felt about it for the show just looked cheap lol.
So again because I am still unclear what do you mean by emulate the video game colors in a game that was inspired by apocalypse movies. Like you think there is a filtered like feel of the entire game ? Lack of colors? Lack of Saturation? Lack of contrast? Looks like its from a different era or world?
Yeah, it came back and forth between different mediums.
I'm not saying it's bad. I'm just saying I can understand where the cheap claim came from.
I don't know how to explain color palettes and color grading to you. Look for it online. What I'm saying about this show is very sutil. It's almost like something you can only feel. I'm a colorist enthusiast so I'll see things differently.
These complaints are far above my pay grade and I can’t tell you my thoughts or not because I am not that educated on the subject lol
i did think the lens/colour grading/cinematography looked shockingly bland, iphone camera tier, and nothing from the first footage but i actually think it works tbh. makes it very 'matter of fact' & understated and unflashy.
i do wish there was less shaky steadycam though, cutting back and forth between different like 3/4 angles of shaky shots of 1 conversation gets kind of dizzying (although ofc this is judging from one episode)
the opening talk show sequence had very stable eerie shots and i think it'd be cool if they interchanged some of that for some moments and maybe they will down the line
these leaked episodes hittin
Yeah I saw the whole series leaked on YouTube
Search “the last of us part 1 full walkthrough”
I think all of these complaints are because they had the director of superhero movie direct that first episode
That guy sucks
Next episode having a programming intern at naughty dog direct
Yeah, it came back and forth between different mediums.

I get what you mean to some degree
why does this show look so cheap i feel like i’m watching something on the cw
This is an adaptation of the original ps3 game not the remastered version

Makes sense why it’s running at sub 30 fps
When they made the videogame they tried to emulate film but it can never be perfect. Especially on a videogame.
So when they made this series they tried to emulate the videogame trying to emulate film but not too much.
I've just finished to watch the pilot and was still thinking about it but now I've made my mind that they got it right. It was a good choice.
If they shot it in 60fps that would have been too far. 24fps is glorious.

Besides the color’s and what not. How did you like the pilot

I liked it a lot. I've never played the videogame and was very invested. The car scene got me sweating like a mf lol
You’re talking about the Arri Alexa Mini, the camera used in almost every single television production today?
it’s not the camera, it’s how they’re using it. s*** looks like a million dollar cosplay lmao and i’ve been studying cinematography for years, just puzzled on why they went this route

I’ll take your word for it. You sound like you’re knowledgeable in film and the subject surrounding it. I’m really not so if you feel that way not gonna argue lol I become brain dead when it comes to technical stuff in film
The talk show scene was emulating film btw. It's supposed to be a 70s show so it's fitting.
