I knew Joel would die, and you'd be wrong to think otherwise. But the problem with Joel's death is that it's contrived and out of character. He's been living in the apocalypse for the past 3 decades, knowing he's got enemies out there and would never reveal his real name to a group of random strangers. That's the main problem with this game's writing, the characters' actions in this game are so forced from who they actually are. And some people might like that tbh, but to say this game is true to it's characters couldn't be further from the truth.

It’s way more than that dude. It’s just f***ing s*** writing. It can be explained pretty simple with the daughter character in the first game. They did such a good job of starting the game with you as the daughter, and the dialogue and the situations in the beginning were so well done, you really felt for the character. And then when she dies, it’s tragic, and makes the player empathize with Joel. That provides the motivation for the game.

In this game, what the writers TRIED to do is have the plot be about Joel’s death, thus giving the player a sense of motivation to complete the game to revenge Joel. This doesn’t work at all because TLOU Pt2 did nothing to earn that. It basically just used the fact that TLOU1 was good, and that we all love Joel, and used that to say “well he’s dead now, so you should be mad”

It’s ridiculous. It’s like if Harry Potter 2 was like “Harry died now, in the first scene, aren’t you mad? Well now you want to kill Voldemort even more” It’s like no, we love Harry, killing off Harry would be such a cheap way of showing how voldermort is evil.

When i read the leaks months ago, i wasnt mad at joel dying but because of how he died and why. It seems like they killed him off just to kill him, just horrible writing.

I watched a few streams too and they made him a dumbass, telling a group of strangers your camp and names? Lol

Plus I knew they would fail to make us sympathize with abby.
