worth it?
yup, it's lowkey a handheld PC, possibilities are limitless
Like just for writing blocks of text? Or do you use it for something more niche than that?
For me it's like a research assistant
"Give me an example of a changing criterion design intervention for reduction of aggression in a school setting"
"What are the differences of a reversal design and an alternating treatment design"
"How do you implement a DRNO protocol"
"Explain like I'm 5 how attention maintained auto-emesis works"
None of this would be answered as fast on a Google search
worth it?
I wouldn't buy it. Give it 1 year and we will have sub 200$ devices doing the same thing. There's already some alternatives but the steam deck is heavy af and just expensive
Once the new chips and stuff roll out in 2024 the steam deck will start to fall behind.
They only made it imo to beat everyone else to the market of a high power handheld. Once the Chinese companies can get cheaper parts and stuff it's over. I'm amazed we have GameCube/PS2 devices under 100$ already for instance, this market moves fast

I don’t understand the GameCube ps2 mention

Because that's ground breaking in the handheld computer scene for being under 100$ and would cost double+ a year ago when the steam deck released. Most people involved in this stuff did not think that would happen until summer 2024 and we got it 2 months ago from a well known brand
The world of handheld computers is blowing up fast and the steam deck will have major competition in 2024

All valid points tbh

yeah its cool s*** to just watch. retroid pocket 2s is the device at 99$, then next up I think is the rg405m around $160, then theres the odin lite 2 and some others above 150
its gonna be a wild year for this stuff in 2024. prices just keep dropping, hardware and software just keeps getting announced. On tiktok you can get a miyoo mini under 30$ somehow

May finally pick up a portable next year if that’s the case
Drinking milk from that one iPhone app right after the app store came out
those gun sound apps
using an ipod touch for the first time was like doing d**** for the first time my brain rewired that day

looking into these, they look cool, but is there a big advantage in processing power s***, to using one of these at home vs my pc with the emulators?
im using an xbox emulator rn to play amped 2 every now and then lol as well
ig what im asking is: the main thing with these is its a handheld thing and portable?
they look cool tho, u heard of this company? analogue.co it sounds kinda cool too but idk anything about gaming s*** so idk what the big appeal is with that company's stuff specifically

Yeah in all honesty it's more about them being handheld, or "feeling" like OG hardware. Or if you look at subs there's plenty of people who just collect them all which I find insane personally
So while a miyoo mini plus can run DS, you're still better off getting/hacking a 3ds (which I'm doing too lol) anyways
If you're fine with a PC, it's not really worth it. And Xbox emulation is a real lacking thing in general because there's just not much demand since so many Xbox games are easily available
And yeah a***ogue pockets are cool but Jesus Christ those prices lol. I think some say they're the best option for game boy stuff
Chatgpt made my life much easier
Was thinking about it when I realised AI is in news everyday for some time when everything todays lasts week

this is cool to hear. i’ve was eyeing it when it first came out but i’ll wait a bit. if other companies can make a lightweight version that would be huge
I know you don't mean it like that but buying an iPad last year really really changed my life. Goat platform to read and make notes on. Made my life so much easier.
Though I imagine it's not that useful for people who aren't students.
But fr in the context you asked, it's AI.

Seems like it'd be really cool and adaptable for music production
