Back in the day we would pay $8.99 for an artist we liked. Not all that money went to the artist of course. But it was just one artist, that we wanted to support.
Now for that same price you can buy almost every song from almost every artist ever: even the ones you don’t support.
Ideally this could’ve been great, IF the majority of the money went to the artists. I wouldn’t mind. But the streaming services are giving literal crumbs to the artists from the insane profits they’re making. Slavery.
So what is the solution?
I think the streaming model would have been amazing if there wasn’t this incessant and everpresent need to market yourself to turn over a profit and participate in this rat race
buy records on bandcamp & support artists on tour/merch
the internet is fake anyways

I agree, Merch and ticket shows is a better way to support your favorite artists.
But I’m specifically talking about music: what can we do better?
NFTs come to mind, tbh I think something similar can be mainstream in the future. The fans and the artists all make money off the artist. Completely cut off the labels
the answer is simple lol
it’s in plain sight too but someone gon have to do it sooner or later

Obvi nothing atp especially not nfts
If an artist needs support they’ll make it easy whether it’s bandcamp/merch/shows/sharing them by word of mouth whatever feels appropriate for that artist do it all but the toothpaste is out of the tube with digital media streaming

Still better than the streaming service which we have to buy 5+ because the movies are all scattered around
You have to understand that it didn't replace CDs... It replaced the literal robbery of piracy that was getting bigger and bigger while CDs were on their death march regardless.
Now Im not saying the streaming s*** is perfect and can't be changed to make it more artist friendly, but that was the situation it was born in.

This is very true, the grass is much greener on this side.

Indubitably..
And I understand that streaming is literally too good of an option, to be able to stream any song at any moment.
It’s just the way they flip the algorithms to benefit the artists they make the most money off of, and also the way they are robbing artists that’s the real issue when I really think about it
The 8.99 didnt go to the artist either lmao.
Artists got like 50 cents per album sold on a "good" contract

i remember on like vh1 or something they had little blurbs in the corner during music videos and this one big tymers song was on and it said “most artists receive 30 cents per album sold while baby receives $4!” always stuck out to me as a child

The alternative to streaming is piracy
