Would rent control and enforced standards for landlords not fix the issues?

rent control is absolutely not a good thing

no we must erase the landlord from society

When did the modern concept of rent for housing begin? I'm going to guess its relatively new

if i have land and i build two houses on it and rent one of the houses out how the f*** is that immoral πŸ’€πŸ’€

Humans "owning" specific spots on a giant rock going around the sun is a wild concept if you think about it

This is claiming it started between the 18th and 19th centuries. Short ass time in the span of humanity

doesnt fix the problem just creates discrimination and offers no long term solution to the issue

theres a really good freakonomics podcast on it but rent control is very very antithetical to economics

you gotta improve supply, put a better tax on secondary property investment and reduce prices through that rather than just brute forcing prices down

What about cutting property tax on 1st, and increasing it with every additional one until a certain limit?

Are there any successful communist experiments? Maybe you should wait for a successful POC before threatening to behead developers who make profits

    I like stuff like that

I dont know enough about americas specific housing problems but things are maybe the worst in the developed world here in New Zealand and its largely because no property investment is taxed

of course all our parliament members own 3-4 houses too so shocker that it hasn't been implemented

but its a no brainer that if you want more available housing and more homeowners you need to decrease the incentive for people to buy property and rent it out

    Agreed.
We need to cut the cost of necessities as a whole. Food too is expensive af these days. Food, shelter and tax, pretty much eats up all the disposable income.
