Yeah the weirdest thing about Thom’s solo tour is… why wouldn’t it be a Smile tour? They’re in the middle of an album cycle. Is he distancing himself from Jonny?
But thom hasn’t said anything about Gaza either. So ?
Jonny def has some transphobic views and gave a dog ate my homework type response when he was called out for liking a nasty tweet last year
Bleak.
Free Palestine. Jonny … I love the music… but ur a bum
They did 3 tours and now they're probably gunna spend the next year doing solo s***/other ventures. Most bands/creative partnerships plan things out in that kind of way

Their most recent interviews kinda pushed the idea that theyd be going back in the studio after touring. They also have been writing nonstop as well, debuting 3 new songs and 1 new arrangement of an unreleased song on tour.
There was no indication to me that the Smile was going on a break anytime soon even if theyve done a lot the last 3 years.
I don't see it that way. Thom is a Guardian-reading s***lib and probably feels bad but thinks that Hamas needs to be taken out.
For the millions that they've made off of being signifiers for platitudes for justice and anti-corruption you'd think they'd be able to realize how essentialist and narcissistic they've been in the past about Israel. Thom doesn't get a pass for being silent about Israel over the last 8 months. He surely has no problem tweeting out stupid articles about climate change
I'm not giving him a pass, I'm saying that his silence most likely stems from his closeness with Jonny or neoliberal indifference rather than a staunch view of Zionism (like Jonny seems to have unfortunately) or racism against Palestinians

For sure

Who knows. Doesnt seem like theyre getting in the studio for a prolonged chunk of time anytime in 2024 like they did immediately after touring LP1
After Jonny's pisspoor, biased statement, here's a brief moment from a recent Ed interview (recorded like a day or two after Jonny's big hoopla).

There's more to it than this (where he talks about calling for a ceasefire on Instagram but not liking how people's views get reduced to "soundbites").
He thankfully outright calls Israel's actions a brutal occupation and also mention that sentiments in their groups / circles may have changed since the last time they played there. He also says they were right to get backlash for playing in Israel back in 2017 as well.
Glad Jonny's viewpoint is not shared by everyone in the band.

laughably unserious people

Karma Police caught up to him for being a zionist
new single(s) coming already...maybe a lil something to make up for the tour.
Double track 12":
Don't Get Me Started / The Slip
Conflicting reports if it's coming tomorrow or 8/8
Probably a one-off rather than an indication of a new album
Is this a one-off single or do they have another album coming?
Wish I was more excited about this, but Jonny Greenwood playing in Israel and then getting all defensive over "Jewish artists right to express themselves" when people got mad has killed like any momentum for me to get hype.
They are so stupid for delaying a digital release and like not even properly announcing the vinyl
This is the team that did the In Rainbows and Moon Shaped Pool rollout lmao

Radiohead and Thom's social media rollouts and presence changed rather intensely after Anima and during covid. Pretty sure they changed media management or marketing teams and it shows.
As a longtime fan, the rollouts for Kid A Mnesia, A Light for Attracting Attention, and Wall of Eyes have been 3 of the strangest and f***ed rollouts I've ever seen. Even if the projects have all turned out phenomenal.

the smile rollouts especially been bizarre. Dropping Bending Hectic saying it's a nonalbum single, then announcing the album a few months later and it's 8 songs with Bending Hectic as the climactic track
Wild s***. Amazing album ofc but still everything feels a lot less considered than it used to.
I absolutely love how spoiled we are that we get something (or two somethings) every year, but the way they try to build hype is super strange. They've done it way more effectively.

I think they called it a non album single to alleviate people expecting a second album rollout coming soon.
They said in an interview that it was their producer Sam who spearheaded the tracklist order with the 8 songs on WoE.
I'd love a third Smile LP soon, even with these two singles. But then....announce it with the singles when they drop digitally.
Releasing the vinyl silently is cool but I feel like it should build to something that isnt just the songs' eventual release and not waste that buzz.

Musicians aren't some kind of paragon of virtue.
These people aren't perfect as a person, no artist is, and I don't see how this should effect enjoyment of their music as long as these views aren't being preached in their music
I definitely listen to more problematic artists whos music has nothing to do with it too. We all do.

Idk when half of Radioheads music is music about the mistreatment and annihilation of innocent people, having one of their members siding with a country engaging in genocide is kind of a massive hurdle.

I can get that to a point, but theres even weirder stuff surrounding him due to his wife afaik. theyve never made music directly about this situation either
personally I just try to separate the art from the artist unless its far too direct/literally the point of the music. If tom macdonald made a beautiful sounding song, we already know the lyrics would still ruin it, I guess to me thats the cutoff (and part of why I cant stand some of new kanye music wise)
I just hope we do not get music thats clearly pro israel, at that point id have to hang up the towel too. But I cant even picture how that would ever happen
hopefully im not just coping too hard.
