i remember american niggas clowning me for being african
Lotta black americans got that western chauvinism to the same degree as their fellow white americans you can see it on here very clearly
We are not from the same anything nigga, brits came and made yall believe we were the same tf
We straight up see yall and koreans in the same way, ur as close to us as them bro
You’re essentially saying you’re not black, but you’re so comfortable throwing the n-word around. why is that?
Like AA’s arent racist af towards other black people while benefiting from the s***ty things their country does against colonized states
As if Somalis (Islamic East Africans) are supposed to identify with West African descendants of slavery who were removed from Africa hundreds of years ago
nice whataboutism
like i said it's really no problem, when you coons realize that in America, these niggas do not care what type of black you are, maybe some change will be brought forth
until then, keep tap dancing
It's a bit more nuanced tho. Not identifying as "black" culturally isn't weird at all, as there us no monolithic global "black culture". But it gets problematic when you're in a white manz world where the people in power (crackers) don't make any distinction between an East African and other descendants of Africa through their lens of white supremacy. Making a huge deal about not identifying as black then only hurts the solidarity that's necessary to push back against this.
It reminds me a lot of when Ethiopians/Eritreans first move to the Netherlands, they might make more of a distinction between themselves and somebody from another country, until they painfilly have to find out with time that the cops profiling your son doesn't give a f*** whether you Eritrean or Ethiopian, or any other type of African for that matter.
this is part of what i was saying to @JayXCIX earlier in the thread. the issue is that this definition for defining a pantheon of identity only works one way - it's obviously a reaction to an external view which is essentially validated in order to fight it (i.e. colonial oppressors: "you are all african" -> reaction: "therefore we must fight as african people to resist the oppressors) ; it's a constructed dichotomy forced externally but it being constructed doesn't necessarily make it any less "real".
However, there has to be honesty about why the the pan-identity exists to begin with; it's not really about shared brotherhood or history, it boils down to shared enemies essentially under world paradigms. You simply cannot convince someone from Somalia they have the same history or ancestry as someone from Malawi because it's literally just not true. However if you say "you currently face similar struggles due to a similar external opposition" it becomes a lot easier. At the same time though, the balance of external struggles vs internal struggles really isn't solved inherently through pan-identities; the only people who think this are external actors (i.e. diaspora) looking on from the outside given the distinction of their relationship to their homeland vs the relationship of those still living there.

We aren’t
Franz Fanon wrote about the psychological effects of colonialism on colonized people in Wretched of the Earth. It's not a 1-to-1 comparison but I recommend checking it out if this is a topic of interest
copped this and started reading after seeing this post. thanks fam.
I agree with OP but just to include a little footnote as an anthropology major there are african ethnic groups all over east africa and southern east africa who have similar stories of being “jewish” or being descended from the middle east and dna testing has actually proved a lot of these cultural histories
that’s very different from the hotep situation but still an interesting factoid

It's a great book (and Fanon's work in general is pretty great), but I'm not sure what any of Les Damnés de la Terre has anything to do with Hoteps/Black Israelites.

We aren’t
at all, that's the hilarious part
we're the main ones who stand up for other minorities and marginalized groups s*** is sparingly reciprocated
it is what it is
Im not american
so then shut the f*** up dumbass. you're in here talking out of your neck and you don't even experience what other african americans experience in reference to other POC, yet you have the nerve to speak authoritatively on it, let alone having the nerve to attempt to group all african americans as "racist to other black people"
you're a f***ing idiot, last response you're getting out of me too

AAs will say African booty scratcher as an elementary school kid. Meanwhile Africans and Caribbeans will specifically tell their children not to FW black Americans, make it a point to say “I’m not black, I’m African”, and just talk down on us in general.
I remember one time I was in the barbershop and this African mother was in there arguing talking about she doesn’t want her sons hair cut like an American kid. Basically meaning no lineup. Had lil man walking out all f***ed up

Calm down a bit yeah
Didnt know Africans and Non american descendants of slavery were opressing you that much. That must be really hard
copped this and started reading after seeing this post. thanks fam.
Enjoy, it's a good one
Dam .
This solves a while bunch of nothing.
If you was born in America and are a descendant of African slave you are not African.
You are literally African American
Whatever that f***ing means from a religious, ideology, sociology standpoint idk
But to look at it another way significantly misportrays the reality of what has happened

I'm not black I'm oj
I am going to live in Japan soon and I follow and know several black people in/from Japan. In Japan, spitting doesn't happen but you do face extra discrimination compared to westerners. Micro Aggressions/ Business discrimination is what normally happen in Japan
That's dope, it's fr not that bad and you should be able to live your life pretty normally. You're more likely to face issues due to the language barrier than racism IMO.
also beware of the ""english teaching"" jobs that require just a bachelors degree, s*** industry with no advancement and low pay (unless you just plan to be in japan for a year or two then i guess its fine)
