Its just weird from an african american perspective too bro.

Like take affirmative action in american universities for example. Did u know that the overwhelming majority of those who benefit from affirmative action in universities are recent african immigrants?

So for example if I was american I could profit from that even though we never went through slavery and even sold other africans. Even worst, niggas from senegal and benin profit from that s*** when these niggas are the descendant of the people who sold y'all while african americans almost dont benefit from that s*** at all

how are senegalese niggas descendants of “the people who sold y’all“ when they were being sold? or am i reading this wrong

Franz Fanon wrote about the psychological effects of colonialism on colonized people in Wretched of the Earth. It's not a 1-to-1 comparison but I recommend checking it out if this is a topic of interest

You are aware they will stare at you, spit on you, deny you entrance into establishments, and possibly kill you just for being black. It's common, ask Black Folks in Japan what they go through.

every foreigner that isn't asian looking gets stared at (and sometimes denied entrance into establishments but this isn't nearly as common as the western media would lead you to believe) in japan.

prob more likely to get spit on in the streets of new york than in japan though.

anyway sorry unrelated to the thread the racism in japan sucks but all in all its mostly ignorable microaggressions, i think especially on this website the situation in japan is a bit overstated by people who went there for 2 weeks on a holiday

    Yeah it’s amazing

It can be a challenging read tho

Meditations on Wretched of the Earth by Yaki Sayles is incredible secondary reading that can be read alongside it or before/afterward. Would recommend checking that out if Wretched is too much at first

I am going to live in Japan soon and I follow and know several black people in/from Japan. In Japan, spitting doesn't happen but you do face extra discrimination compared to westerners. Micro Aggressions/ Business discrimination is what normally happen in Japan

I wasnt even aggressive with you lmao, I just called you illiterate for thinking Fanon's work isn't based on Pan-African Marxism.

You rolled your eyes at his Marxist thought? I am literally in the middle of an entire Political Theory paper on Fanon's relation to Marx, 90% of his theory is tied to some type of Marxist thought. You can't read any of his work and separate it from his Marxist Philosophy especially a work like Wretched Earth.

Yeah, my point is that I didn't even make the assertion that it wasn't, that's the tangent I was referring to.

What do they say about cushites lmao

They were shemetic peoples who, from the Mesopotamian area, settled in the area of Kemet for some time

somalis, africans, jamaicans, haitians etc. will make sure that it is known that they're anything but african american like it gives them points or some s*** from yts or in America period

coon ass niggas, poc solidarity is a farce

Like AA’s arent racist af towards other black people while benefiting from the s***ty things their country does against colonized states
As if Somalis (Islamic East Africans) are supposed to identify with West African descendants of slavery who were removed from Africa hundreds of years ago

It's a bit more nuanced tho. Not identifying as "black" culturally isn't weird at all, as there us no monolithic global "black culture". But it gets problematic when you're in a white manz world where the people in power (crackers) don't make any distinction between an East African and other descendants of Africa through their lens of white supremacy. Making a huge deal about not identifying as black then only hurts the solidarity that's necessary to push back against this.

It reminds me a lot of when Ethiopians/Eritreans first move to the Netherlands, they might make more of a distinction between themselves and somebody from another country, until they painfilly have to find out with time that the cops profiling your son doesn't give a f*** whether you Eritrean or Ethiopian, or any other type of African for that matter.

A lot of people, even in Africa, would like to find why excuse to have any sort of relation to non-African blood. Like I’ve observed a lot of (lightskin) black Africans want to be viewed as mixed or find joy in being told they look mixed. Or they’ll say they want to have kids with white people, or people of other races. Just want to distance themselves and their bloodline from just being black.

A lot of people here don’t think being purely black/African is beautiful.

Colonisation did a very big number on us.
