the scene where AJ hops in the pool and Tony finds him, man that s*** is burned into my mind still - Gandolfini sells that 100%, once he realises it's fr you absolutely believe he's scared for that boy

what do you mean, did they film it for real?
Real
They really could've made this man the Heisenberg of the mafia but they made him kind of a weak whiney dude instead

True
He played Paulie so well though, he probably isn't too different from the character in real life.

well I mean they filmed it in a pool and everything (and it was the middle of winter too), obviously Robert Iler wasn't actually tied to a brick the whole time but besides that there were no gimmicks
Rewatching, currently on Season 2. Forgot about Christopher's vision. Imagine if the ending was Tony walking into that Irish bar in hell & he sees Paulie, Christopher, P\*\*\*\* etc. :damn: would've been like a darker version of Lost's ending
Edit: Ending & Lost ending spoilers
Word to da wise
Remember Pearl Harbor

That “WHATS THE MATTER WIT YOU” when tony drags aj out. Jesus

yeah man, like he's pissed but at the same time he's like f***ed up, he's genuinely asking the question
Gandolfini really knew how to sell those moments where Tony's mask slips a bit and we get a glimpse of a dude with genuine feelings underneath, like that scene in the previous season where he finally admits to Melfi that he's OK with Vito being gay, basically wishes him the best and s***
what a legend
RIP GANDOLFINI
His performance throughout the show still astounds me. One of the greatest actors to portray a gangster/mobster ever tbh

Fr. And just to portray a flawed father and husband. Made a character who could have very easily felt over the top into one extremely human and relatable.
In no order and just off the top
Tony’s Russian girl
That writing exec Chris was with
That girl who does peyote with Tony
Tennis coach
Maybe the one in Italy forgot her name/role (boss/boss’ daughter?)
Then there’s probs some others I’m missing

Crazy how overall the show is really more of a family drama than a mobster tv show. I agree, he plays the complexities of his character perfectly
