Yea I see now. Love misleading trailers 🙄

Tbf David Chase mentioned this in the cover story interview, for Rollingstone, stating that HBO edited the trailer to advertise the Younger Tony instead of D***ie despite Chase’s wishes they they didn’t

    A New Impression

If the script was better this movie coulda been a slam

    exactly

the ideas presented and casting was all there

just needed the writing to pull through a bit better

I liked how he sat in the same way tony would sit in the therapist chair

He even got the same mannerisms as he was eating and talk to Liv, he really did his research

  • Oct 2, 2021

Movie was a mess, what was up with some of the cheap looking colour correction? Almost looked like they slapped a cheap IG filter lmao

The casting was amazing all around (except Silvio)

Baby Tony almost looked like a young Jim, Michael was great, Carmella was spot on.

I did not give two f***s about the Harold storyline at all. I would’ve liked that time to progress Tony and Carmella’s relationship or even D***ie. Movie didn’t convince me that D***ie & Tony were as close as they said.

    5/10

Word I can respect that if Chase was actually against it cus s*** definitely gave a false narrative

this one will def age better. you know it when ppl slam it at first they'll come around. el camino was loved all around and now I think of it like 'oh so that was a thing huh'

I enjoyed it though it kinda left me empty. I think a lot of what was shown was essential to that other thing (the series), and you could get more from there. I think its better when you look at it like that. I would say it was somewhat unnecessary but for my money still memorable. the final lines from Chris were super haunting, I loved it

    7/10

oh and ill hate it if they do anything more that a movie. I dont want 'james gandolfini' to happen to his son, that would be such a shame. let the f***ing kid get his jump from there and be his own actor. I'll do without a mini-series or whatever dumb suggestion Im seeing online

like yeah there was no card game and that but they dont have to show literally every single thing mentioned in the series

Terrible take, as long as they don't jump the shark why would you be against more of a good thing lmao

The more I think about it, the more I like this film. I think there’s a lot to decipher.

Some (very) basic symbolism I noticed: D***ie’s uncle is named “Salvatore” which means “Savior”. His purpose is to guide/save D***ie and give him some spiritual basis (Dickie doesn’t know s*** about religion and is even corrected by a young Tony about Hebrews in the Bible). Salvatore is in jail because he killed “a made guy in the family”, that’s basically what D***ie did too. That’s also what Tony did too when he killed Christopher (even though Chris basically worked for him). Another parallel: Salvatore failed to “save” D***ie just like D***ie failed to “save” Tony. The fact that Tony waits for D***ie at Holsten’s is very interesting because it’s a turning point in his life, much like the final scene of the show, no matter how you interpret it.

Also, the whole film pretty much confirms this brillant theory/analysis:

Great a***ysis.. I found myself drawing parallels to young Tony in Holsten’s and the final episode. I took it as Tony continuously checking the door as a call back to when he just sat there waiting for his “father figure” that never showed. I used to simply take it as paranoia.

Fair enough. What do you mean you don't want "james gandolfini" to happen to his son? It's not like playing Tony drove him to alcoholism, d**** or suicide. Dude was unhealthy and passed from a heart attack many years after the sopranos had wrapped up

True but shark jumping can def reduce a properties reputation/legacy

The Matrix would be far higher regarded had the sequels, revolutions in particular, never came out

Same thing with the last couple game of thrones seasons

i hear you, but as long as david chase would have somewhat control without it going full corporate, i wouldn't mind a few hbo max series.

  • I liked the film. Harold storyline was almost irrelevant. I keep wondering if this movie had to exist

    Gandolfini kid KILLED IT

Dude pretty much morphed into Tony when that kid insults him and he gets that hateful Tony look on his face and snaps "Whaddiyya say??"

He needs his own movie or even better, mini series or full fledged show

Need a series of the rise of Tony Sopranos. Would be awesome.

I know people keep mentioning that they don’t bring up D\*\*\*ie’s d\*\*\* issues, but I’m wondering… maybe the rest of the family misconstrued him having the script for T’s mom on him at death as him being a junkie pill addict. Hell… Uncle Junior may have further spread the misinformation too since he hated him.

Still can't believe Jun did this to D***ie just coz his ass fell down the stairs lmao

Movie didn’t HAVE to exist, but it’s still good. Any Sopranos that isn’t s*** I will gladly watch. Need them to milk it like Star Wars. Give me a Sopranos game.
