I recommend this app called StyleSeat. It’s how I found the people that do my hair. You can read reviews, check out rating, prices and all that. You just gotta pay a small deposit beforehand to secure your spot.
Those the mfs that be charging a lot in my experience
by hair stylist do you mean braiders or something else?
Bc I don’t understand how you couldn’t know about a single braider w positive reputation
are barbers considered hairstylists? I’d assume so, but based on this thread I’m curious bc my barber got me nice

social media stylist mindset pretty much
it's like that for men haircuts as well, pricey as f***
covid created super barbers
The one time my barber told me to be there on a date and specific time and he didn’t show up?!?!?
I stoped going to that NIGGA!
I just started getting my hair braided the last few months but I only have two women I go to. The first is pretty expensive but worth it because the style lasts a month+, but the second lady is exactly like op described lol. I try not to mind it too much though bc she hooks me up with food plates for a discount
Never had any issue with my black woman hairstylist, but that means nothing.
A few s***ty stylist also means nothing.
All it takes is a lil research to find out how some of these places perform but if you are going somewhere that doesn’t have any reviews or anything showing their actual quality that’s a risk you took.

Oh yeah there’s definitely some people on there in my area that charge ridiculous prices. I don’t have a problem paying if the end result is amazing but my hair not long enough to be dropping 150+ 🥴 will definitely stay in that 80-115 range.

A lot of people experience these problems going to these front room stylists too. I get they’re more affordable but their service isn’t going to be top notch.
What the hell is going on? I have not heard a single good thing about hairstylists in the black community, especially when it comes to women.
They want you to do 70% of the work - no product no oil straightened no split ends parted blow dryed - and they charge like 300 dollars. AND they be late as hell when youre on time. AND they be overbooking.
Heard this through my girl, my other friends, and the internet like twitter and s***. Why everybody tryna be jeff bezos?
YOU KNOW WHAT OP
I was finna say this is stupid as f***,but I actually thought about my own experiences with the one accessible black barbershop in my town (small town with about 1% black people), they deadass moved across town, charged more, and ghosted my appointments
Granted, until I found my current barber, I've had mixed experiences with all races, but looking at it from a capitalist perspective barbers as a whole be tripping, adding into the pride of having a black owned business without actually being considerate of a community can be a problem. Idk how many people can relate and again, my story too is annecdotal but there is some validity to what you saying and should be discussed.
Idk I'm stoned lol
tbh that entire retwist experience just nailed in why i just let my s*** be semi freeform/ill just do it on my own
You need a friend to do it
Not twisting but for braiding I have a few homegirls that do it and my sister
Drip em a few dollars even though they dont ask and/or I'll do somethin g for em
Cheaper, more comfortable & the hair is nice
for a year and a half, i was retwisting my locs myself. but as my hair grew longer, so did the process. i got tired of it and went to my homegirl, she’s cold wit the two-strand twists
recently though, i think imma go back to doing it myself. it saves money and it’s just such a flex whenever people ask me who does my hair
i get a taper and beard line up for 55 rn s*** is wild
You getting robbed
Go buy some clippers
Nah I get it. Cost of living going up and they can be on their feet for hours twisting and braiding a full head of hair. Price of a brick going up
i get a taper and beard line up for 55 rn s*** is wild
bro, it's $50 for a low taper fade and $30 for a lineup.
need to buy my own clippers at some point and just do it myself
