I mean Judon being traded for a third is a dream scenario, we would’ve been bottom 5 whether we had him or not

But also this is a bottom 5 o line and still not anywhere near good enough skill position group. And we’re not making the playoffs this year

So I hesitate to say the best path to improve for him is playing in real games. Unless he SO obviously is better than Brissett that it seems forced not to play him

I just think live game reps will be better for his development. and I do think he’s better than brissett is even right now

I mean I do think he’s better, but I’m not sure it’s by a discernable amount. My question is, is it to the point that it’s super clear to the players on the team in practice every day. From what I’ve heard, I don’t think that’s the case.

Game reps are definitely helpful, but could they be outweighed by the harm that could be done by facing tons more pressure than other nfl qb’s, and not having good enough WRs to make up for that? It’s been a problem for other rookie QBs that’s led to permanent damage.

valid, the last preseason game should give us some more insight. I thought he looked great and ready last game but let’s see him run with the 1s. his mobility should be able to help out the o line too.

Week 5 vs phins

If we learned anything from Mac jones it’s to let maye sit behind JB and absorb.

We aren’t going to be competitive with our o-line and wr core.

Unfortunately just go the expected 3-15 get a high draft pick and go get a great WR or draft back and get some potentially good linemen.

Sending maye out there to run for his life and throw to receivers that can’t separate will only end with him losing confidence in himself.

Don’t get me wrong I would like him to start and for the team to be as competitive as possible. But do we risk Maye failing out in three seasons like Mac did?

he’s the first good QB to play for this team since 2019. you tryna sit him all year? if not what’s the point in sitting him for 4 weeks? kid should play, there’s no better way to develop. especially if he repeats his performance in the next preseason game.

Mahomes sat for a year

My personal opinion is send him out there with a solid chance to win and that won’t be this year. This isn’t ACC football anymore, there’s gonna be a learning curve + the immense lack of talent won’t help.

mahomes sitting for a year was obviously wrong. I don’t see how sitting on the bench is going to help him get over the learning curve.

It’s more of a transition thing than anything else. Watch from the sidelines, get advice from JB on what he’s seeing and maybe he can provide insight to him.

We don’t have any winning offensive veterans, rookie coach, new OC, terrible line, bottom tier wr core, avg TE, and a carousel of RB’s.

In theory we’re gonna get bullied and maye is gonna be asked to be an all time great QB to make this team competitive. No reason to put him through all that as a rookie.

Just ask yourself if maye plays do we have a playoff chance? If no…sit his ass down and let JB help him develop over this year. Next thing you know it’s week 9, we are 1-8 and maye blows his acl and will miss some time next year.

That’s just my take on this situation after watching the Mac jones failure (which the organization failed Mac more than he failed the team)

if it looks like a mess tomorrow night I think you'll have a point, but if he goes out and looks way better than jacoby for the 2nd time in a row, and the offensive line doesn't look horrendous, then play him. play your best QB and try to win when you're 0-0.

if he's not ready, he's not ready, but if he shows he can move the offense, it's time. I know I'm putting a lot of stake into one preseason game though, I'd def like to see it again.

Whether you’re trying to argue in favor of or against Maye starting, Mahomes/Chiefs in 2017 is a dumb comp

Chiefs were a playoff team with a lot of talent in 2017, and they had a starting QB already in place (Alex Smith) that ended up going to the Pro Bowl that season, and Mahomes was deemed by some draft a***ysts as a bit of a “project”. They had absolutely no need to force the issue that season

I agree it's a dumb comp, the situations are nothing alike.

they absolutely shoulda played mahomes with the benefit of hindsight though. how much better do you realistically think he was in his second season than he would've been in his first? they probably could've made a deeper run with a rookie mahomes compared to alex smith. he's just built different.
