I’m just waiting on this era to have a documentary made about it. It’s definitely time to reflect
Everyone either had a Bulls, Knicks or OBEY hat those fits were trash and we just all went with it
Bruh until this year it’s been horrible being a Bulls fan because mfs always joke saying I’m stuck in 2012 and I’m like no dude this is my team lmaooooo
Soulja boy was part of the movemenT too
We all acknowledge Soulja though he literally is the father
Nobody ever mentions them
Like they ain't have everybody wearing 501 levis, cargo shorts, chuck taylors, and smoking papers at a time where everybody was rolling blunts
You can find all Last Kings merch at your local platos closet now.
the yellow g-shock
G-shocks had me in a chokehold lmaooooo
Put some respect on The Cool Kids.
Absolutely. I consider them more blog era than swag if that makes any sense though. Like don’t get me wrong Chuck and Mikey were huge influences that don’t get any credit for a lot of s***. I just always group them in with backpackers and blogs then the swag stuff going on
ahhh, simpler times. 6th-8th grade was lit
EDIT:
To pay proper homage in throwing Mikey and Chuck at the top of OP because I don’t want it to be confused I would ever exclude their impact.
I’m not saying any of the names below were FIRST to do anything. But they ushered in the era for people (mostly black kids) to be more expressive with style and being true to themselves.
New Boyz had the Jerk movement. That was the first initial shift from baggy clothes to skinny jeans/fit clothing. The jerk movement was obviously short lived but it’s impact can’t be denied. For my older 20s posters idk how it was on the west coast. But In the South at least wearing anything that wasn’t baggy in the mid 2000s would get you flamed. So people transitioning to tight jeans was huge. I don’t think we have that discussion about that era a lot. New Boyz walked so a lot of you younger cats can get away with a lot of the fashion y’all have today. Granted 2009 was an awkward dressing period, but it was still the beginning of trends to come.
Travis Porter and Odd Future deserve credit for their impact as well. Travis Porter was just perfect for the timeline. Very swaggy like New Boyz but also with the trap vibes infused. They really put an emphasis on being different (literally a track called I’m a Differenter) again they didn’t start anything and they were also short lived. But huge in the south at least and their impact gets kind of swept under the rug for pretty much influencing a lot of people to gravitate away from 2000s styles as well.
Now on to Odd Future. Tyler made it a huge point to tell kids to be themselves. Tyler obviously in the older days was far from an actual good role model with a lot of his behavior, but a lot of kids still looked up to him. He influenced a lot of style changes. Again here in the South you really didn’t see black skaters like that and they popped up everywhere after the OF movement. Tyler was out here dressed like an Easter basket taxi driver and a lot of people followed behind that. His influence is obviously undeniable. Tyler made being yourself look cooler than anyone else did. Mix that with Lil B’s formula of music being a huge inspiration for a lot of artists that are big now and you pretty much have the recipe for 2021.
A lot of these early 2010 trends were cringe and you can look back now and say yikes. But the freedom to wear pretty much whatever now, any kind of whacky hair styles or dye, and make very unorthodox music in hip hop, none of that would fly without us going through the “swag” era
I believe you but the shift to skinny jeans started with Kanye and Jim Jones

Hugging girls in the hallways
Odd Future had normies change they whole identity over night. Dudes used to be head to toe aeropostale and sperry's, then the Yonkers video dropped, and the following week them same kids came back to school rocking Hawaiian shirts and tube sock talking bout "I'm an atheist now and I got a Tumblr"
how you say swag and not mention Lil B???
all of OF was singing his praises in their primes, he influenced the f*** out of them
Classic
