Made Chance mainstream and got him awards

and it was a dope album

we weren't heated bc he loves his wife. we were heated because he leaned into the worst parts of his artistry on that album. literally i hate his voice on many of the songs.

Production for most of TBD also took a step back from his previous work which is crazy.
I really don't think it was as bad as people say but it was definitely disappointing

Half of the album is decent to great and the other half mediocre to bad

Coloring Book and Acid Rap were both great. TBD really wasn’t good. That’s about it. Let’s see where he goes from here because I’m pretty sure he hasn’t suddenly lost his talent

A married man got bullied because he made an album about his wife and being happily married. That’s so sad and miserable its like these people have 0 self awareness

Rappers flexing their wealth is fine but Chance flexing his happy marriage was a step too far

🥺🥺🥺🥺 2014 was supposed to be Chance’s year. It was also supposed to be Joey Bada$$’s year too. A lot of artists dropped the ball heavy not releasing that year

I never liked Chance always thought he was overrated af

Album was great outside of the intro track and the one where he talks about farting on the seat

it was just mid to me personally but there’s a lot of gems on that project

It felt music-related to me. Because Chance doesn't fit in with a lot of the other popular rappers of his generation, i feel like he has to make his music extra high quality to keep people's attention.

He did that, and more, on Acid Rap and moments like sunday candy or ULB, legitimately making some classic level music.

But for me as someone who was really excited for Coloring Book, he only reached that level a couple times on coloring book (How Great, Angels, Finish Line/Drown were my standouts). But even tho I felt this way, it seemed like most people actually loved the whole project. Maybe he waited too long to drop the follow up and didn't have lots of great features to keep people hyped when they were waiting? Maybe people didn't want him on the beats he was picking? Either way, his music ULB has progressively got lots less focused.

It's a shame as he would have been a fun, positive force in hip hop. He felt a bit stagnant too. like he wanted to be the next kanye, but unlike ye, he stopped at his first mainstream sound and was happy with that. I'm sure he'll make some good songs tho, like I Might Need Security was great.
