    S*** finna be incredible

I think the Avatar OST is incredible. Even just watching that trailer from Avatar 2, the music was easily more memorable to me than any other movie OST I have heard in years.

Don Corleone is one of the greatest characters in cinema history, but the Godfather isn't as relevant today as it was in the 70s. I think a ton of people wouldn't be able to tell you who he is because many people just haven't seen the Godfather.

I think while visuals are a big part of Avatar 2's marketing, that is definitely not the only reason people are interested. They want to see a great story. And we have seen what Cameron does in his sequels. The first Alien and first Terminator were very intimate stories that were liked but didn't have nearly the universal attention and love that their sequels got because they became a lot more iconic and far reaching in their appeal. And now both Alien and Terminator are seen as very iconic movies because the sequels made people understand those movies better and appreciate them.

Obviously a younger person who’s never seen The Godfather wouldn’t know Don Corleone by name. I’m talking about people who have seen the movie.

Even people who have SEEN Avatar couldn’t tell you the name of the main character, or any character in the movie for that matter. I’ve seen Avatar myself numerous times and I had no idea what Sam Worthington’s character’s name was before I just Googled it

    "No one cares"
"No one remembers the characters names"
"No one writes fanfics about Avatar"

    Not these tired twitter takes...

Fox really didn't do much with Avatar after 2010. The biggest thing was the theme park

But the real Avatar franchise starts now, in exactly 10 days with The Way of Water.

Then we have new movies in 2024, 2026 and 2028. Get used to it

The Way of Water needs to make more than $2 billion just to break even. You’d better hope it reaches that

The production budget is actually in the $350-400 million range.

James Cameron himself said the movie has to be in the Top 5 highest grossing ever just to break even:

EDIT: Didn’t see that James lowered that number. Wonder why he started so high then

I think he worded it awkwardly. I think when he was talking about top 5 highest grossing ever, he may have referred to domestically (which would be around 800 mil)

I think he also said it this way because this was before Avatar 2 got the China release so maybe he figured the movie would have to dominate domestically since there wouldn't be as much of a worldwide launch.

    Ahh that makes sense

I think the movie will definitely reach that mark, but I’d be shocked if gets anywhere near the first movie’s totals. The most I see this doing is 1.3-1.5 billion

Are we seriously gonna pretend like we actually remember characters names from movies? You could do this with a lot of films. Jake Sully is a sticky name IMO.

Finally, they’re bringing some talent to this trash movie franchise

If you can’t remember the character’s name fine, but classic movies and movies that leave a mark on society have other identifiers that people bring up for years, like iconic moments, quotable dialogue, great story elements, or musical cues. Avatar has none of those, on top of the character names being forgettable.

All people remember it for is the visual effects & box office

A lot of it will depend on word of mouth. But it is tracking for a huge movie launch and with Christmas and the month of January which typically can be a huge month for the older crowd seeing the Oscars movies, Avatar 2 is capable of having a gigantic box office. But again, it's tough to predict the legs if the audience ain't f***ing with it.
