Let’s be real… if it were any other film
Besides black panther, it would not be #1 by now. Black panther is one of the biggest sub-franchises in the mcu. It was also one of the 2 phase 4 films that didn’t s*** the bed
i think the only things mcu films and avatar share in common are the fact that they’re blockbusters
Avatar has way more heart, passion, and soul poured into it than any mcu film. I fw the mcu (phase 3 and prior) but they just don’t have that same level of care and craftsmanship that James Cameron puts in his work. Basically, mcu is a bit too corporate and as of late… quite rushed
I think TWOW will feature a more compelling story than anything marvel has put out in years, not just another dumb popcorn flick. A story with real heart and emotion will stick with people. Yes I know BP2 has emotion to it. That’s why it’s stuck around so long in the BO
People will be wowed by the beautiful cgi and then captivated by the compelling story.. I just can’t see this underperforming
This too
Like these MCU stories are garbage and recycled from each other so often. Everything is just about a villain trying to get a magical object to dominate the world. And we’re giving Avatar s*** for riffing on Pocahontas to tell a story about colonialism that criticized the white savior trope in a time when that was risqué?
It’s funny when y’all say it’s a Weeknd x James Cameron collaboration like Cameron mixing his vocals
Not hating tho this is big but James Cameron probably had nothing to do with Weeknd being chosen. Only reason Trav did Tenet was cause the composer was Ludwig.

Given how meticulous Cameron is with his movies I don't think it would be crazy to think he picked Weeknd after hearing a demo

1. You’re speculating that people will be wowed by the story, even though this wasn’t the case with the first movie. We simply don’t know yet if people will care about these characters or the story. Which leads me to my next point.
2. Not every MCU movie has the best story, but people return to those films and that franchise because they love the characters and they love seeing them on screen. Tarantino touched on this idea recently when he said that movie stars don’t exist anymore and people are going to movies now to see characters they love and not the actor playing the character. Avatar (at least right now) doesn’t have a character like this, so for it to succeed in the current state of cinema, it will need to have characters that people fall in love with and care about.
And 3. While not every single Marvel movie has the most emotion or most compelling story, some of them do, and those are the ones that leave the most mark on the audience (Endgame, No Way Home, BP2), so I think it’s a little unfair to call every single one a “dumb popcorn flick”
Unfortunately for him the movie is gonna flop
It’s the biggest movie event/release in like a decade. Probably going to break every single record

1. Cameron + cast have alluded multiple times that the story is quite emotional and a huge step up from the first one (which already had a solid, albeit basic story)
2. The same way people return to capeshit for the characters is the same way people return to avatar to visit the world of pandora. We will see how compelling these new characters are. Also, I think that people will do more repeat viewings than they typically do for capeshit films
3. This was a miscommunication on my part, I don’t think ALL marvel films lack heart, just most of them. My main point was that avatar 2 isn’t another corporate blockbuster. It’s a passion project from one of the most brilliant minds in cinema. I still believe this film will pack much more heart than any other marvel film has ever been able to do
We’ll have to agree to disagree. It’ll be much easier to discuss this after avatar drops and we see it do 3 billion over the next few months
He’s oversaturating himself again
Needs to take like a year off after The Idol before he drops another album imo
As a Drake superstan I'm hating till it drops
W for being honest tbh

He hasnt dropped anything in 11 months, no features no anything, one feature and one soundtrack placements arent a big deal, this isnt an album single

Dawn FM was this year + he toured + Creepin + The Idol + this
For any other artist that’s a massive year
It’s the biggest movie event/release in like a decade. Probably going to break every single record
that's just not true lol
This will be so beautiful
The Way of Water needs to make more than $2 billion just to break even. You’d better hope it reaches that
it's coming for 3 billion
that's just not true lol
The first Avatar is still the highest grossing movie ever, despite coming out in 2009. What’s not true about it?
movie event of a generation otw
Avatar 2 will be the biggest blockbuster film of the last 5 years, even more
