Fox really didn't do much with Avatar after 2010. The biggest thing was the theme park

But the real Avatar franchise starts now, in exactly 10 days with The Way of Water.

Then we have new movies in 2024, 2026 and 2028. Get used to it

The biggest box offices in the last year are No Way Home (1.9 million), Top Gun (1.5) and Jurassic Park (1.0).

I don’t see it coming close to No Way Home because of how much hype was surrounding that movie, so the Top Gun range is the highest I think it will peak if word of mouth is good

I feel like people have been saying “superhero fatigue” for half a decade now, meanwhile Wakanda Forever has been #1 at the box office since it released.

I agree that Marvel overall this year was lacking in quality, but it’s completely wrong to say that general audiences are fatigued of these movies when they’re still topping the box office for weeks at a time and reeling in billions of dollars.

And again, I don’t see how Avatar is a “change of pace” from Marvel when they’re a lot more similar than some want to admit.

Both are CGI heavy, family friendly, crowd-pleasing, big budget blockbusters. I think it’s gonna be much harder for Avatar 2 to stand out this time around since the last decade of cinema has been dominated by this specific type of film

1. Cameron + cast have alluded multiple times that the story is quite emotional and a huge step up from the first one (which already had a solid, albeit basic story)

2. The same way people return to capeshit for the characters is the same way people return to avatar to visit the world of pandora. We will see how compelling these new characters are. Also, I think that people will do more repeat viewings than they typically do for capeshit films

3. This was a miscommunication on my part, I don’t think ALL marvel films lack heart, just most of them. My main point was that avatar 2 isn’t another corporate blockbuster. It’s a passion project from one of the most brilliant minds in cinema. I still believe this film will pack much more heart than any other marvel film has ever been able to do

We’ll have to agree to disagree. It’ll be much easier to discuss this after avatar drops and we see it do 3 billion over the next few months

difference is mcu is starting to only appeal to comic book nerds who are actually keeping up with every movie and disney+ show

there's like 18 projects this phase, most people cant watch all that. you're not taking your grandma to see Dr Strange 2 or Thor 4 cause they'd have no idea whats going on

movies like top gun and maybe Avatar have the benefit or reaching every demographic and generation cause the story is based mostly only in that movie. this is also why the first Black Panther reached so many people.

Y’all are failing to realize that a big part of the first film’s success was how groundbreaking it was for 2009

This is now a franchise driven off the strength of its visual effects releasing a sequel in a climate of cinema where CGI heavy movies have been the standard for a decade now

Avatar and James Cameron movies in general have tremendous legs at the box office. Avatar 1 opened to like $70 million and consistently was number 1 at the box office for almost like 10 weeks i think. kept making $60-70 million each weekend, whereas the Marvel & Star Wars movies tend to teeter out after 2-3 weeks. Plus the re-release of Avatar in september did like $75 million, which is unheard of for a re-release. China loves this movie and its the first new American movie being shown in China since 2019. Titanic opened kind of low and just kept making the same amounts every weekend too. The saying in Hollywood now is that you never doubt James Cameron
