Michael never used the 7B, always the SM7, common misconception.

And make that a specific version that Bruce Swedien owned...

I don't believe Daft Punk would let him drop a song multiple years after they are done

tbh they let travis drop a song on Utopia, even though it's only half of DP

I just realized that HOB was released on the 21st march 2011. The 21st would be a Thursday but maybe it makes sense for him to release a single that week.

I know he’s one of the most popular artists in the world. But it doesn’t feel like it to me for some reason. Like in real life I don’t ever run into die hard Weeknd fans like I do Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Drake, etc.

Anyone else relate? Idk what it is, it’s like he’s one of the most popular artists but still sort of underground in a way idk how to explain it.

In my personal experience, usually any big fan I’ve met has the same usual trope of “I like his old stuff a lot better” lol like 90% of interactions

he is one of the biggest "music artists" right now but he is not even half of the celebrity that they are. thats the difference and im glad it is like that

That’s a good way to put it. I agree, I’m also glad it’s like that haha.

Fun fact, the micorohpone he had, the serial code for it, doesn’t truly exist. So he’s got one of the rarest SM7s as it’s almost like it doesn’t exist.

I highly suggest everyone watch Sonic Fantasy if they haven’t yet, the best Thriller documentary honestly.

It’s a good studio, have you seen the albums that have been made there? I’m going to look into the history and acoustics of the studios exactly to see what the significance is, if any, which there most likely is.

I have my minor gripes with Abel and his choices of microphones from an engineer standpoint, I feel like he could use a different mic instead of an SM7B but it is what it is.

I look forward to the production and hopefully the album doesn’t have too much ‘gloss’ that these modern and recent releases have had by his peers and contemporaries.

I personally like the “gloss” sound that you mentioned lol, what’s your issue with it?
