Just finished a rewatch of the whole show. This is literally the greatest TV show of all time. I watch a lot of series and have tons of favorites but this s*** right here is just on another level and will never be matched. Simon is the best in the industry in juggling different storylines and characters
On rewatch, all seasons are strong and the reactions to S2 and S5 were disappointment because S1 and S4 were so special but binging the whole show together there was no weak season, only weaker seasons which were still much better than most of the s*** on TV. I'd put it 4>1>3>2>5 but can't be mad at anybody who has the a different order besides 5 being last.
GOAT F***ING SHOW, NO HYPERBOLE

straight facts top to bottom
I think my personal ranking would be 1>4>2>3>5 after my rewatch a year or so ago, but who knows how things would shake out if I came back at it again.
I also rewatched the miniseries Simon and Burns did right after, Generation Kill, and that s*** is exceptional too

I watched it with my girl who was watching it for the first time and surprisingly she loved Season 5 and the closure it brought. She had it 1>5>4>3>2
I remember liking Generation Kill for what it was. Simon really is on another level with character development and using an ensemble cast. Treme and The Deuce are other great examples. Been waiting to binge Plot Against America too.
shame his shows never get a lot of hype or viewers until years later but I give HBO major props for continuing to back him and give him new shows. I'll put his catalog up against any other showrunner no doubt

yeah it's incredible they've been supporting him all these years when I don't think he's even won a single Emmy, they just keep backing his plays, love to see it
season 5 gets a bit of a bad rap sometimes, which is sad imo because it's clearly such a personal season for Simon and Burns, both of them coming from press backgrounds (Burns was a cop first for memory and then wrote non-fiction books, while Simon was a newspaper man) and then on top of that you've got Clark Johnson (who directed the first 2 eps of season 1) coming in to play that reporter Gus, and then ultimately directing the finale
lots of great full circle stuff at play which gets underappreciated a bit imo
season 2 a top 3 season of this show real ones already know and i will die on this hill

Can confirm

after my sixth rewatch,
4>3>2>1>5
read that if HBO allowed a season 6, Simon was ready to do it on the Latino community in Southeast Baltimore
I tried checking other shows that David Simon was heavily involved in, since I love The Wire. Found a show called the Deuce with James Franco. Only two episodes in but so far it's boring as s***

Nah in the reunion doco he talks about how they abandoned the idea early-ish because they didn't have any Latinos in the writers room, plus the reporters and stuff they worked with for research had never been involved in that world either, so they thought it wouldn't feel honest and dropped the idea before they were even cancelled during season 5.
Would have been heat though for sure

Watch The Plot Against America it's a 2020 show

No one else I know is watching this 😩 I’m on the last episode. Frightening show.
Apologies if this has been posted already, but did you all know that Omar jumping out of the window is not only based on a real thing Donnie Andrews did, but that he actually jumped out of a sixth floor window and they made it lower because they knew audiences would have a hard enough time believing Omar’d survive a fifth floor drop? And that Andrews once also survived a jump off of a bridge that was even higher than the sixth floor of that building?
