IMO almost as good as the wire and that’s saying something as the entire series is only 25 episodes. It’s special for sure

Season 1 felt just like a Wire season. It's an all timer. 10/10 But then the show kinda fell off midway through season 2.

Did anyone thought that Carcetti having an affair/extramarital thing would have been used later in the series against him by some former political adversary/high-profile gangster or the blackballing plot was simply never the writers intention?

Show always takes a different direction. S4 is a lot of people’s favorite so I’d give it a watch imminently.
Season 5 is weird, and people don’t like it, but I really loved it
