will always be one of my favorite scenes lmao
Stringer: "Later for that gangster bullsh*t."
Five Seconds Later ...
Also Stringer: deploys some gangster bullsh*t retort.
He was in too deep for his own. Dude got too big for his boots.
Do y'all like watching this in 4:3 (as it originally aired), or in the 16:9 aspect ratio HD set they dropped when the blu ray release came out?
It always pissed me off how they wrote his death, felt stupid for how observant he was
He had a blind loyalty to his nephew the same way Avon did. Even though they knew there were liabilities in their camps.
Nobody could pick up that Hungry Man would get got or that the Greek would side with Marlo after years of doing business. I don't blame Joe.
Mike pimp slapping Naymond was super necessary. Knocked some sense into that boy. Can't believe that was Weebay's kid

16:9 Blu Ray is crisp, although J do love the retro charm of 4:3
My last watch was in 16:9

Namond from that moment changed for the better, and had a bright future infront of him.
Loudest in the room is always the weakest.

I'm seeing the 16:9 on YT and they be looking crisp. 4:3 works better for some scenes, and 16:9 for others. Just my two cents.

Overbearing mother didn't help

I wouldn’t describe Avon as blindly loyal to Deangelo more so his sister lol & just less callous than Stringer, he recognizes what Deangelo is , Cheese was a just a piece of s*** all round, for Joe to have play a pivotal part in his operation they never show context of that (to my memory)
stringer will always be among my top 5 favorite characters in this show, you barely know anything about him personally, he doesn’t like not one of the people he’s dealing with, everyone’s a pawn, he basically hates Avon too by the time he gets out the second time, dude feels like one of the most trapped characters
Who were the the most intelligent characters on the show? 🤔
Vondas
The Greek
Omar (knew the rules of the game, worked for himself, and most importantly knew his role)
Bubbles (He had troubles, but wasn't an idiot)
Lester (knew his limits, and his self-awareness >>>)
Prop Joe (see Lester)
Pootie (perhaps lucky moreso than smart)
Bunny (most progressive thinker, and actually had solutions)
D'Angelo (smart dude, but he wasn't meant for the lifestyle)
Slim Charles (cool as they come, and never let his emotions get in the way)
I want to say Avon because he's one of my favourites, but I'm conflicted.
Stringer is definitely a contender for the dumbest. Avon knew he wasn't what he thought he was. The Streets knew he wasn't fooling the block.
Yeah, he fooled McNulty with his courses at the community college and had a few fancy books on his shelves. He got exposed faster than a dude with an erectile dysfunction at an Orgy.

I always liked Norman. He knew how to play the political game.

String wasn't a war-time consigliere, but he was very smart.
Setting up Omar and Brother Mouzone was high risk, high reward. It backfired badly but that was a crazy chess move. The moving parts were just out of his control. Imagine what could've happened if the plan worked? Had they not spoken and just got right to it, the Barksdales would be outta there with only Marlo to deal with. He was just a little slow and a little bit late
He took that quick history lesson about WorldCom/Verizon from his professor and applied it to the d\*\*\* game. (That same lesson echoes my view about streaming but that's for a whole nother thread lol)
He kept Avon insulated after he got shot
He always tried to tie up loose ends and eliminate all liabilities. Kept the ship afloat by doing the deal with Prop Joe and joined the co-op even though it made them look weak at first
Then he set up Avon just to give him enough time to save their business and have him sit down only for the parole violation which would give him enough time to possibly legitimize the business and get them out of the war. He wouldn't do the deal with Bunny if Avon would get any extra time. Also high risk high reward, and it was some snake ass s\*\*\*. But that was a genius move
The only truly dumb moves I remember him making were trying to reason with Marlo, and getting played by Clay Davis

In the context of their “worlds” Marlo/Carccetti I’d say

First watch was the OG but ever since ive watched the remaster, my dream is that in a 3:4 release. The show was obviously framed for 3:4 so there are a lot of things not meant to be framed that appear in the remaster. not a huge deal but would be nice to have the best of both worlds

Smart guy but also absolutely delusional naive ambitions
pure intelligence wise is Lester & Prez maybe
I'm conflicted with Prez... so
● Easily cracked the connection with the Barkside crew
● Left the PD before shyt got thick with him shooting that boy
● End up being a legit teacher to save the babies
However..
● He also got kicked off the force for fu*king up.
● Bet he'd still police if he didnt discharge his weapon in office and beat that lil kid blind.
● Dude was treated as the joke of the precinct.
Sorry guys, I should spoiler, but one's dumbass has forgotten how to initiate it.
Drogon acting like after a bottle of Jameson around this joint
In the context of their “worlds” Marlo/Carccetti I’d say
Marlo went back to the corner even though he was breaking bread with top earners that could have awarded him a comfortable living without the stress of being the head of the co-op.
I guess.. the dude wanted the crown more than anything
He even said to Kris they should celebrate after taking out pop joe

He just didn’t have the composure for the environment he was in & sort of leaned empath but still crazy intelligent

I've been here too long to not know how but how do we spoiler so I can fix mine?

Prez had no common sense
Where would y'all rank Marlo in terms of intelligence? He achieved Stringer's dream but what was Stringer's dream was Marlo's nightmare and he quickly went back to his old days. Considerin the finale he will end either dead or in jail but I always found fascinating those shades of machiavellism he showed
