ignorance breeds fear. and therefore any change to the status quo equates to an attack for most people as opposed to an opportunity for betterment or advancement.

i also believe that that ignorance fuels such a crisis of imagination. people don't understand how very basic structures in society even work and therefore treat these structures and systems with a sort of god-like reverence. instead of realizing these systems were created by people and can be improved upon or removed.

such ignorance really shouldn't be excused in a society with instantaneous access to most information at everyone's fingertips. unfortunately, people are lazy and lack the attention span needed to even fact check a facebook post.

Man 40 hours a week is nothing lmao

Lmao the only people I've seen advocate that 40 a week is nothing are those with nothing else going on in life

Yes it's do-able and we've all seen these workaholics who work 60+ a week with 3 jobs do so much just to pay off that car and house. That's cool you grinded and sacrificed your youth 👏🏽 does not need to be like that lol this country is efficient enough to have 30 hour work weeks with 3 day weekend standard with a rise of pay. Our buddies in suits just want to squeeze you dry

There’s also a crisis of people thinking that where we go from here has to be destabilizingly radical or else there will be no improvement. As if a form of democratic socialism - free healthcare, better wages, better education, universal basic income, shorter work weeks - wouldn’t just take slight tweaking and compromise from the 1% to solve a lot of the problems of the 99%

Everybody brainwashed into thinking they need to be RADICAL or else they’re part of the problem

And they’re being led by people that are so obsessed with their radical identity that they wouldn’t even want to get the change they claim to because then they wouldn’t have an identity

Individual liberty and economic mobility are the single most important thing about this country and always will be and they can be retained with a democratic socialist system

You will never never never force bullshit commune style socialism on this country when it prevents ANYONE from succeeding more than the average and if that’s what you want kick rocks and move somewhere else

Even 55 hours is not a lot. I’m in finance (in a tech focused role) and consistently work 60 hours a week and have ample time for other things, friends and family and hobbies.

If I was doing pure finance or banking that balloons up to 80-100 which yeah is f***ing the only thing you’d be doing and is parasitic but a 30 hour work week is ridiculous

Like y’all realize we wouldn’t be as technologically advanced or have the level of medical research if our culture was a 30 hour work week?

i really can't believe there are still people like you who think the 1% are going to "compromise" as if they give a f*** about the 99%

I don’t think they’re willingly going to compromise at all, at what point did I say that? And it’s funny that that’s the only single thing you’ve picked out to respond to. Very evident of the crisis of actual dialogue skills going on rn but anyway

What I’m saying is we need to force the 1% to cut the s*** by continued mob pressure at their doorstep like what happened in the Hampton’s this past week and what will happen to a much more aggressive degree if months of unemployment continue and things do not change. The 1% will finally compromise when they feel their physical safety is in jeopardy

Hahaha you felt so good about yourself after your little self righteous post but just a little pressure and pushback and you fold and can’t say anything. Good call bowing out you’d just expose your lack of actual intelligence if you tried to engage

sad reality is that the most affected by this is the same people from whom the 'revolution' was to originate - the working class.

infighting amongst the working class (and a focus on important issues of gender, race, etc.) has somewhat led to the deterioration of class solidarity making any meaningful, 'people-led' change impossible.

one things many leftists do wrong is their alienation of people based on a false sense of superiority. PC-policing, well-educated, virtue-signaling leftists will often point to rural workers in the midwest (as an example) who suffer the most (materially) due to capitalism/globalization as the cause of issues but in doing so recreate the same conditions that gave us Trump, etc.

saying its impossible is a bit of a stretch despite the other truths in this post

thats why the effort has to be made to build class consciousness.

sure its not completely impossible but im highly skeptical of there being the widespread, 'overnight' type of revolution that is necessary for the upheaval of capitalism any time soon
